Job Description

The Marketing and Communications team at the W. P. Carey School of Business is seeking a creative, detail-oriented, and highly motivated professional with a passion for social media and digital storytelling. Reporting to the assistant director of communications, the social media manager will oversee the strategy and execution of social media initiatives designed to increase awareness, deepen audience engagement, strengthen the school’s reputation, and advance organizational goals. The social media manager will use audience insights, platform trends, and performance data to inform content strategy, identify opportunities, and continuously improve results. The ideal candidate is resourceful, organized, dependable, and efficient, with exceptional attention to detail and the ability to exercise sound judgment. This role requires someone who can balance creativity with strategic thinking, manage multiple priorities, and thrive in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.

Salary Range: $54,600-$70,000 annually; to commensurate with experience

Essential Duties

• Responsible for oversight of social media strategies as well as management and reporting of vendor implemented strategies.
• Provide direction for social media strategy, including best practices in SEO/GEO and audience engagement through different social platforms.
• Design audience-building and social engagement strategies using performance-based and earned media tactics.
• Creation of annual social media content calendar, in alignment with MarComm planning.
• Stay current on higher education social media trends, platform updates, and digital communication best practices to inform strategy.
• Manage social media monitoring tools and provide analysis, including, but not limited to, share of voice and social listening.
• Provide insights into the latest trends and best practices to ensure department/unit remains innovative in social media efforts.
• Develop consistent, actionable reporting for social media and influencer-related content and communicate insights to internal stakeholders and leadership.
• Analyze digital KPIs and proactively provide measurable insight into in-progress social media initiatives to effectively maximize campaign performance.
• Manage day-to-day operations across the organization's social media platforms (including but not limited to Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn) ensuring content is timely, accurate, and aligned with brand standards.
• Create compelling, platform-specific content that advances organizational goals and engages target audiences.
• Oversee community management by monitoring comments, direct messages, and conversations, responding appropriately and escalating issues as needed.
• Manage platform settings, account access, permissions, and governance to ensure security and compliance.
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders to coordinate social media support for campaigns, events, and institutional initiatives.
• Supervise social media student worker team.
• Develop and maintain collaborative working relationships with team members, project managers, creative resources such as multimedia, SEO, and content teams along with other outside constituencies to accomplish project goals and content needs.
• Serve as W. P. Carey School representative on campus-wide social media initiatives.
• Other duties as assigned.

Desired Qualifications

• Experience working in marketing and communications within the higher education context.
• Demonstrated strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities.
• Demonstrated experience creating and executing social media content for an organization or brand.
• Demonstrated knowledge of social media platforms (incl. Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook), audiences, formats and usage standards.
• Experience using social media scheduling, monitoring and analytics tools.
• Experience capturing photos and video and creating short-form content for social and digital channels.
• Experience leading social media strategy in a professional context.
• Demonstrated strong attention to detail and ability to identify errors or inconsistencies in copy, links, assets, or schedules.
• Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
• Familiarity with AP style and/or ASU brand writing style preferred.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Premier Pro, Photoshop).

Working Environment

• Work is primarily performed in an indoor office environment.
• Regular use of computers and standard office equipment requiring extended periods of sitting, keyboarding, and use of a computer mouse.
• Occasional evening and weekend work may be required to support special events, university initiatives, and time-sensitive communications.
• This position is eligible for a hybrid work in the State of Arizona.
