Software Applications Engineer Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a software applications engineer in Texas?
Most employers in Texas require a bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, electrical engineering, or a related discipline. Texas does not have a state-issued license specifically for software applications engineers, though engineers who also perform work that affects public safety may pursue licensure through the Texas Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors. Building a portfolio of applied projects and earning industry certifications in relevant platforms or languages strengthens a candidacy significantly.
How much do software applications engineers make in Texas?
Software applications engineers in Texas earn a median of about $132,150 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $82,600 for the lowest 10% to over $183,680 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire software applications engineers in Texas?
Employers hiring software applications engineers in Texas right now include Synopsys, Celestica, and Microchip Technology, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's concentration of defense contractors, semiconductor firms, and enterprise technology headquarters means hiring tends to be deep and ongoing rather than seasonal.
Which Texas cities have the most software applications engineer jobs?
Austin, Houston, and Dallas have the most software applications engineer openings in Texas. Austin's dense concentration of technology company headquarters and semiconductor manufacturers drives the bulk of listings there, while Dallas-Fort Worth's large base of enterprise IT, telecom, and defense employers sustains demand across the broader metroplex, and Houston's energy technology and aerospace sectors add consistent volume.
Are there remote software applications engineer jobs in Texas?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 18% of software applications engineer openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting how naturally the role lends itself to distributed work. Roles focused on enterprise web applications, SaaS platforms, and backend systems tend to be the most remote-friendly, while positions involving embedded systems, lab hardware integration, or classified defense work typically require on-site presence.
How can I get hired as a software applications engineer in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is an associate or new-graduate engineering program at a large Texas employer. Companies like Dell Technologies, Raytheon, and Texas Instruments run structured rotational and new-grad programs specifically for candidates without professional experience. Applying to roles titled junior software engineer, associate applications developer, or software test engineer opens the door from adjacent positions. A strong GitHub portfolio, a relevant internship completed through a Texas university engineering program, or a recognized cloud or software certification provides a concrete edge in screening.
Where can I find and apply to software applications engineer jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to software applications engineer jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current Texas openings across industries and experience levels. Find roles that fit your background and apply directly from the listings.
