The typical path is earning a bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field from a Kentucky university such as the University of Kentucky, University of Louisville, or Kentucky State University. Graduates enter the field through entry-level developer or associate engineer roles, and building a portfolio of projects strengthens applications considerably.
How much do software engineers make in Kentucky?
Software engineers in Kentucky earn a median of about $109,010 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $76,310 for the lowest 10% to over $168,110 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire software engineers in Kentucky?
