Take ownership of assigned responsibilities while actively seeking opportunities to expand your knowledge and contribute beyond your immediate responsibilities.
Collaborate with Finance, Operations, and other departments to support the organization’s continued growth and integration.
Perform other job-related duties as assigned within the scope of the role and within the employee's knowledge, skills, and abilities.
What We’re Looking For
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field.
2–3 years of accounting experience.

Experience with Workday or a similar ERP/accounting system preferred.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
Excellent attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a collaborative team.
Positive, proactive approach and genuine interest in continued learning and professional growth.
What Sets You Apart
We’re looking for someone who sees accounting as a career, not simply a job.
You’re intellectually curious and naturally ask why rather than simply following a process. You enjoy investigating discrepancies, solving problems, and understanding how things work. You take ownership of your responsibilities, follow through on commitments, and communicate proactively when something needs attention.
You’re also interested in what comes next. You want to develop your technical accounting skills, broaden your understanding of the business, and gradually take on more complex responsibilities. You don’t need to have everything figured out; you need the curiosity, initiative, and ambition to keep learning.
Most importantly, you’re excited by the opportunity to grow alongside an organization that is itself evolving.

Staff Accountant Jobs in Chicago: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a staff accountant job in Chicago?
Target the Loop and River North first, where Chicago's financial services firms, Big Four and regional accounting firms, and corporate headquarters concentrate most of their accounting hires. Candidates with general ledger, month-end close, and reconciliation experience stand out here. Familiarity with ERP systems common in Chicago's manufacturing and logistics sectors, such as SAP or Oracle, adds a meaningful edge in this market.
Which companies hire staff accountants in Chicago?
Employers hiring staff accountants in Chicago right now include Sargent & Lundy, Exelon, and SkyART, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Chicago's mix of global corporate headquarters, regional professional services firms, and large healthcare and insurance organizations means demand for staff accountants stays consistent across multiple employer types throughout the year.
Are there remote staff accountant jobs in Chicago?
Yes, though availability depends heavily on the role. Staff accountant work that centers on journal entries, reconciliations, and reporting tends to be more remote-friendly than positions requiring hands-on audit support or on-site cash handling. About 85% of staff accountant openings tied to Chicago are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, with hybrid arrangements most common among Chicago's large corporate and financial services employers.
How can I get a staff accountant job in Chicago with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Chicago is targeting smaller regional firms and mid-size companies in Fulton Market and the West Loop, which tend to hire junior staff accountants and accounting associates more readily than large downtown employers. Bookkeeper, accounts payable specialist, and accounting clerk roles at Chicago-area manufacturers, logistics companies, and nonprofits are common stepping stones. A CPA exam candidacy or active study pursuit noticeably strengthens applications with local firms.
Which industries hire the most staff accountants in Chicago?
Most staff accountant openings in Chicago sit in Education, Transportation & Logistics, and Biotechnology & Pharmaceuticals, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Chicago's role as a national hub for financial services, insurance, and professional services, combined with its large healthcare systems and manufacturing base, creates consistent and broad demand for staff-level accounting talent across multiple sectors simultaneously.
