The Emerging Products Design Team
Emerging Products is an org pillar inside Auth0. We figure out what's next. You'll be designing systems that help developers secure AI agents, manage granular permissions, and build on identity primitives that don't fully exist yet.
Engineers, PMs, and Designers work on the same problems at the same time. There is no design-then-build sequence. There's just build.
What you’ll be doing
When everyone on the team can generate UI, the designer's role shifts. You become the person responsible for strong systems thinking, taste, quality, experience, and being the voice of the customer. You hold the quality bar when speed is pushing everything toward "fine."
-
Prototype at volume: Use AI tools and code to explore dozens of directions fast, then narrow based on what works and what solves the actual problem.
Design in the codebase: Work within our React and Next.js environment to refine components and interactions where users will actually experience them.
Simplify complexity: Turn authorization models, SDK patterns, and security flows into interfaces that feel clear without losing precision.
Raise the craft: Help the broader design org see what this way of working looks like in practice. We're all figuring this out together.
What you’ll bring to the role
-
You have craft: This matters most. Considered typography, intentional spacing, polished micro-interactions, details that show someone genuinely cared. We're looking for someone with a refined sense of design taste/aesthetics and a deep appreciation for the details that create a polished user experience.
You build: 6+ years of design experience, but somewhere along the way you started prototyping in the browser, shipping side projects, or writing production code because you wanted the interaction exactly right.
You have a real AI practice: Not experimentation, but an actual workflow. You have opinions about where AI tools help and where they fall short.
You design for developers: Tools, APIs, CLIs, SDKs, and admin dashboards. You know "simple" means something different for this audience.
Note for when applying
In your application, please include a link to your portfolio with password (if protected). We prioritize a review of your design craft and any examples of your work in code.

Staff Designer Jobs in Illinois: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a staff designer in Illinois?
A bachelor's degree in graphic design, user experience design, visual communication, or an adjacent field is the standard entry point for staff designer roles in Illinois. Illinois does not require a state-issued license or registration to work as a staff designer. Chicago-area employers typically expect a polished portfolio demonstrating shipped work alongside your degree, and candidates who build experience through Illinois-based agencies, in-house teams, or design bootcamps with strong local employer networks are consistently competitive.
Which companies hire staff designers in Illinois?
Employers hiring staff designers in Illinois right now include Burns & McDonnell, Okta, and Affirm, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Illinois's concentration of Fortune 500 headquarters, major consumer brands, and a large independent agency scene means staff designer openings appear across industries throughout the year.
Which Illinois cities have the most staff designer jobs?
Chicago and Lisle account for the most staff designer openings in Illinois. Chicago drives the vast majority of demand as home to a dense cluster of corporate headquarters, digital product studios, and advertising agencies, while Evanston and suburban areas reflect hiring from Northwestern University's affiliated organizations and the North Shore's growing technology and healthcare employer base.
Are there remote staff designer jobs in Illinois?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 67% of staff designer openings tied to Illinois are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting the screen-based and collaborative-tool-friendly nature of design work. Roles focused on UX research, visual design, and design systems tend to be the most remote-eligible, while positions requiring frequent stakeholder presentations or hands-on workshop facilitation lean toward hybrid arrangements.
How can I get hired as a staff designer in Illinois with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is securing a junior designer or associate designer role at a Chicago-area agency or mid-size product company, where project volume creates genuine mentorship opportunities. Large Illinois employers such as Walgreens and McDonald's run internship-to-hire pipelines that frequently convert to full-time junior positions. Candidates without formal experience can strengthen their applications by building a focused portfolio through freelance or volunteer work with nonprofits, and by pursuing a certificate from an Illinois-based design program to demonstrate current tool proficiency.
Where can I find and apply to staff designer jobs in Illinois?
You can find and apply to staff designer jobs in Illinois on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from Illinois employers. Find roles that fit your experience and specialty, then apply directly to each position.
