Staff Pharmacist Jobs in West Virginia: Frequently Asked Questions

To obtain it, you need a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an ACPE-accredited school, successful completion of both the NAPLEX and the Multistate Pharmacy Jurisprudence Examination, and an intern experience requirement fulfilled before sitting for exams. West Virginia participates in the Nurse Licensure Compact equivalent for pharmacy through NABP e-Profile, which streamlines the process for candidates already licensed in another state.
How much do staff pharmacists make in West Virginia?
Staff pharmacists in West Virginia earn a median of about $133,430 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $80,900 for the lowest 10% to over $166,020 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire staff pharmacists in West Virginia?
West Virginia staff pharmacist roles are posted by Walmart, CVS Health, and Appalachian Regional Healthcare and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. West Virginia's mix of large hospital systems and rural retail pharmacy operations means openings appear across both clinical and community settings throughout the state.
Which West Virginia cities have the most staff pharmacist jobs?
Beckley, Huntington, and Martinsburg consistently lead West Virginia for staff pharmacist openings. Charleston anchors the market as the state capital with the largest concentration of hospitals and retail locations, while Huntington's medical corridor around Marshall Health drives strong institutional demand, and Morgantown's academic medical center at West Virginia University generates both hospital and outpatient openings year-round.
Are there remote staff pharmacist jobs in West Virginia?
Yes, but they're rare. The hands-on nature of most staff pharmacist work requires an on-site presence for dispensing, patient counseling, and regulatory compliance. About 0% of staff pharmacist openings tied to West Virginia are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting that in-person work is the standard. The roles most likely to carry remote components are telepharmacy positions and drug utilization review roles, which some West Virginia health systems have adopted to serve rural communities.
How can I get hired as a staff pharmacist in West Virginia with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is completing a PGY1 pharmacy residency through an accredited West Virginia program, with WVU Medicine and Cabell Huntington Hospital among the institutions that offer positions for new graduates. Candidates who cannot secure a residency often transition from pharmacy intern or pharmacy technician roles within the same organization. Holding a current West Virginia Board of Pharmacy intern registration and completing rotations in hospital or retail settings within the state gives new graduates a concrete competitive edge over candidates without local clinical exposure.
