Staff Pharmacist Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a staff pharmacist in Texas?
To become a staff pharmacist in Texas, you must hold an active license from the Texas State Board of Pharmacy, which requires a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an accredited program, passing scores on the NAPLEX and the Multistate Pharmacy Jurisprudence Exam with the Texas-specific law component, and completion of the required internship hours. Applications are submitted directly to the Texas State Board of Pharmacy before you can practice.
How much do staff pharmacists make in Texas?
Staff pharmacists in Texas earn a median of about $138,260 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $95,950 for the lowest 10% to over $170,170 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire staff pharmacists in Texas?
Employers hiring staff pharmacists in Texas right now include CVS Health, Walmart, and Houston Methodist, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's mix of major retail chains, large hospital systems, and integrated health networks means openings are distributed across both metro and suburban markets statewide.
Which Texas cities have the most staff pharmacist jobs?
Houston, Dallas, and San Antonio consistently post the most staff pharmacist openings in Texas. Houston and Dallas lead because of their dense concentration of major hospital systems, specialty clinics, and retail pharmacy locations, while San Antonio's large military health infrastructure and growing medical district drive steady demand that extends into surrounding suburban communities.
Are there remote staff pharmacist jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're rare. The staff pharmacist role is largely hands-on and facility-based, requiring direct dispensing, patient counseling, and on-site collaboration with clinical teams. About 2% of staff pharmacist openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those positions are almost exclusively in telepharmacy, utilization review, or specialty clinical consulting rather than traditional dispensing roles.
How can I get hired as a staff pharmacist in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying directly to new-graduate residency programs or pharmacy intern-to-staff pipelines run by large Texas health systems such as UTHealth Houston, Baylor Scott and White Health, and the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. Retail chains including CVS Health and Walgreens regularly hire new PharmD graduates into staff pharmacist roles in Texas. Holding an active Texas State Board of Pharmacy license before applying and completing an ASHP-accredited PGY-1 residency significantly strengthens a candidate with no post-graduate experience.
Where can I find and apply to staff pharmacist jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to staff pharmacist jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers across the state. Search the listings to find roles that match your experience and preferred location, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
