Staff Pharmacist Jobs in Ohio: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a staff pharmacist in Ohio?
To become a staff pharmacist in Ohio, you must earn a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an accredited program, pass both the NAPLEX and MPJE licensing exams, and obtain an active pharmacist license from the Ohio State Board of Pharmacy. Ohio also requires a separate DEA registration if you will handle controlled substances. Some hospital employers additionally expect completion of a PGY-1 residency for clinical roles.
How much do staff pharmacists make in Ohio?
Staff pharmacists in Ohio earn a median of about $137,020 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $65,470 for the lowest 10% to over $165,900 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire staff pharmacists in Ohio?
Employers hiring staff pharmacists in Ohio right now include CVS Health, Walmart, and UC Health, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Ohio's mix of large integrated health systems, regional hospital networks, and major retail pharmacy chains creates consistent openings throughout the year.
Which Ohio cities have the most staff pharmacist jobs?
The cities with the most staff pharmacist openings in Ohio are Columbus, Chillicothe, and Dayton. Columbus and Cleveland drive the largest share of demand because of their dense concentrations of hospital systems, academic medical centers, and corporate pharmacy headquarters, while Cincinnati's strong presence of health insurers and integrated care networks adds steady clinical and specialty pharmacy openings.
Are there remote staff pharmacist jobs in Ohio?
Yes, but they're rare. Because staff pharmacists typically verify and dispense medications in person, the majority of roles require on-site work. About 4% of staff pharmacist openings tied to Ohio are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, and those positions tend to involve telepharmacy oversight, prior authorization review, or medication therapy management conducted by phone or video.
How can I get hired as a staff pharmacist in Ohio with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is securing a staff pharmacist position through a new-graduate hiring program or completing a PGY-1 pharmacy practice residency at an Ohio health system such as OhioHealth, University Hospitals, or the Cleveland Clinic. Retail chains with Ohio distribution also hire new graduates directly into staff roles. Candidates who complete Ohio-based APPE rotations, hold an active Ohio pharmacist license before graduation, and have intern pharmacist hours already logged on their application have a clear competitive edge.
Where can I find and apply to staff pharmacist jobs in Ohio?
You can find and apply to staff pharmacist jobs in Ohio on Migrate Mate, which lists current Ohio openings from employers across the state. Find roles that fit your experience, location, and specialty preference, then apply directly to each one.
