Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding STEM OPT Authorization as a Data Quality Analyst
Verify your CIP code before applying
Pull your degree's CIP code from your school's DSO and cross-check it against the DHS STEM OPT designated degree program list. Data quality roles often map to CIP codes in computer science, information science, or mathematics, but a mismatch delays your extension.
Confirm E-Verify enrollment during screening
Ask recruiters directly whether the employer is enrolled in E-Verify before your first interview. Hiring managers at smaller analytics firms often don't know offhand, so request confirmation from HR in writing before accepting any offer.
Target employers with active data governance hiring
Companies building data governance programs or migrating to cloud data warehouses consistently need data quality analysts and are more structured around STEM OPT onboarding. Use Migrate Mate to filter for employers with verified E-Verify enrollment in those sectors.
Build your I-983 training plan around measurable outcomes
Your I-983 must list specific learning objectives tied to your STEM degree. For data quality roles, frame objectives around statistical validation methods, data pipeline auditing, or anomaly detection, not just general data analysis tasks your DSO won't approve.
Use O*NET to match your degree field to the role
Data Quality Analyst appears in O*NET under database and network administrators and related occupations. Pull the occupation's listed knowledge areas and map them directly to your STEM degree coursework when justifying your extension application to your DSO.

Find Data Quality Analyst JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does a Data Quality Analyst role qualify for the STEM OPT extension?
Yes, if your employer is enrolled in E-Verify and your degree's CIP code appears on the DHS STEM designated degree list. Degrees in computer science, information systems, statistics, or applied mathematics typically qualify. Your DSO confirms eligibility based on your specific degree program and the job duties listed in your I-983 training plan.
Which STEM degrees make you eligible to work as a Data Quality Analyst on STEM OPT?
Degrees in computer science, data science, statistics, information technology, mathematics, and industrial engineering are commonly approved. The key is that your CIP code must appear on the DHS STEM OPT list, and the role's core functions, such as data validation, pipeline monitoring, and quality framework design, must connect to your field of study. Your DSO makes the final determination.
What does the I-983 training plan need to include for a Data Quality Analyst position?
The I-983 must list specific, measurable learning objectives tied to your STEM degree, not just a job description. For a Data Quality Analyst role, include objectives around data integrity validation, anomaly detection methodology, or structured query auditing. Your employer's supervisor signs the plan, and USCIS requires that it demonstrate a genuine connection between the work and your degree field.
How do you verify that an employer is enrolled in E-Verify before accepting a Data Quality Analyst offer?
Ask the recruiter or HR contact directly and request written confirmation. Employers can also self-verify their enrollment status through the E-Verify employer search tool on the E-Verify website. Do not rely on a company's size or reputation as a proxy for enrollment. STEM OPT is invalid without a participating employer, and you're responsible for confirming this before your extension is filed.
Where can you find Data Quality Analyst jobs that are verified for STEM OPT hiring?
Migrate Mate filters job listings for employers enrolled in E-Verify, so you can focus your search on roles where STEM OPT is actually viable. This saves significant time compared to screening individual postings manually, especially in data and analytics, where smaller companies frequently hire for data quality roles but aren't always set up for STEM OPT compliance from day one.
