Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding STEM OPT Authorization as a Devops Manager
Verify your CIP code before applying
Cross-reference your degree program's Classification of Instructional Programs code against the STEM OPT designated degree list published by USCIS. Computer science, information systems, and engineering management degrees commonly qualify, but the exact CIP code on your transcript determines eligibility, not the degree title.
Check E-Verify enrollment before accepting offers
A company can legally hire you on STEM OPT only if it is enrolled in E-Verify. Look up any prospective employer on the E-Verify employer search tool before signing an offer letter. Enrollment status is not guaranteed even at large tech firms.
Target companies with active PERM and LCA filings
DevOps Manager roles often sit on a path to H-1B visa sponsorship. Companies that file Labor Condition Applications through DOL and run PERM cases for similar roles signal genuine long-term sponsorship infrastructure, not just tolerance for OPT workers.
Build your I-983 training plan around real deliverables
Your I-983 must list specific learning objectives tied to your STEM degree. For a DevOps Manager role, frame objectives around CI/CD architecture, infrastructure automation, and SRE practices. Vague descriptions raise scrutiny from your DSO and can delay STEM OPT approval.
Use Migrate Mate to find E-Verify employers hiring DevOps Managers
Filter your search on Migrate Mate to surface DevOps Manager openings at companies already enrolled in E-Verify and with documented visa sponsorship history. This cuts the research time that typically delays STEM OPT students from submitting applications.
Negotiate start dates against your OPT timeline
STEM OPT extensions require your DSO to update your I-20 and file a timely application with USCIS. Confirm your extension application is submitted at least 90 days before your initial OPT ends, then align any DevOps Manager start date accordingly to avoid an unauthorized work gap.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does a DevOps Manager role qualify for the STEM OPT extension?
Yes, if your underlying degree maps to a STEM-designated CIP code. DevOps Manager positions typically require a background in computer science, information systems, or engineering, all of which commonly appear on the STEM OPT eligible degree list. The role itself is not what determines eligibility; your degree and its CIP code are. Confirm the match through USCIS before your DSO files the extension.
What does the E-Verify requirement mean for finding DevOps Manager jobs on STEM OPT?
Every employer who hires you on STEM OPT must be enrolled in E-Verify, the federal employment eligibility verification system. This is a legal requirement, not a preference. Before accepting any DevOps Manager offer, use the E-Verify employer search to confirm enrollment. If the company is not enrolled, it cannot lawfully employ you on STEM OPT even if it wants to. Migrate Mate surfaces DevOps Manager roles at employers with verified E-Verify enrollment and sponsorship history.
What goes into the I-983 training plan for a DevOps Manager position?
The I-983 requires you and your employer to document how the training experience relates to your STEM degree. For a DevOps Manager role, your learning objectives should connect directly to technical competencies such as infrastructure engineering, platform reliability, or systems architecture. Both you and a company supervisor must sign the plan, and your DSO must review it before USCIS approves the extension. Generic job descriptions are not sufficient.
What happens to my STEM OPT authorization if my H-1B is selected in the lottery?
If your H-1B petition is filed on time and selected in the lottery, the cap-gap provision automatically extends your STEM OPT work authorization from April 1 through October 1 of that fiscal year. You can continue working as a DevOps Manager during this period without interruption, provided your employer maintains E-Verify enrollment and your status remains otherwise valid. USCIS details cap-gap eligibility in its OPT guidance.
How do I identify DevOps Manager roles where the employer is likely to support my full STEM OPT period?
Look for employers with a documented history of Labor Condition Application filings for technical management and engineering roles, which signals experience navigating DOL and USCIS processes. You can cross-reference OFLC Wage Search data to see whether a company has filed for comparable positions. Employers who have run these processes before are better equipped to support your training plan, I-983 renewals, and eventual H-1B transition.
