STEM OPT Devops Lead Jobs
DevOps Lead roles sit squarely within STEM-designated CIP codes, making them eligible for the 24-month STEM OPT extension beyond your initial 12 months. Your employer must be enrolled in E-Verify and sign a Form I-983 training plan before your extension begins. A STEM degree in computer science, information systems, or a related field is required to qualify.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding STEM OPT Authorization in Devops Lead
Verify your degree CIP code matches
Cross-check your degree's Classification of Instructional Programs code against the official STEM OPT designated degree list before applying. Computer science, information systems, and software engineering codes all qualify, but a general business or IT management degree may not.
Confirm E-Verify enrollment before accepting offers
Ask your recruiter for the E-Verify company ID number or look up the employer directly through E-Verify's employer search. A company that isn't enrolled cannot legally hire you on STEM OPT, so confirm this before investing time in late-stage interviews.
Frame your infrastructure leadership experience precisely
DevOps Lead postings often require documented team leadership alongside technical skills. On your resume, quantify the number of engineers you led and the CI/CD pipelines or cloud migrations you owned, since USCIS reviews the I-983 training plan against your actual responsibilities.
Use Migrate Mate to target employers with STEM OPT track records
Search DevOps Lead openings on Migrate Mate, which filters for employers with verified E-Verify enrollment and OPT hiring history. This cuts the research time of manually vetting employers who can actually extend your authorization.
Negotiate your I-983 training plan before your start date
Push for a signed Form I-983 that maps your DevOps Lead duties to specific learning objectives before your first day. Your DSO can't recommend the STEM OPT extension to USCIS without a completed plan, and a vague job description creates processing delays.

Find Devops Lead JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does a DevOps Lead role qualify for the STEM OPT extension?
Yes, provided your underlying degree carries a qualifying STEM CIP code and the job duties align with that field. DevOps Lead positions typically fall under software engineering, computer science, or information systems degree categories. Your DSO will verify the CIP code match when issuing the updated I-20 for your extension. You can confirm your degree's CIP code using the DHS STEM OPT designated degree program list.
Does my employer need to be enrolled in E-Verify to hire me as a DevOps Lead on STEM OPT?
Yes, E-Verify enrollment is a strict legal requirement for STEM OPT employment, not just a preference. The employer must be actively enrolled before your extension start date. You can confirm enrollment by asking your HR contact for the E-Verify company ID or checking directly through E-Verify's employer search tool. Working for a non-enrolled employer voids your STEM OPT authorization entirely.
What should my Form I-983 training plan include for a DevOps Lead position?
The I-983 must detail the specific skills you'll develop, how your DevOps Lead duties connect to your STEM degree, and how the employer will supervise and evaluate your progress. For this role, that means documenting CI/CD pipeline management, cloud infrastructure oversight, and team leadership responsibilities. Your DSO reviews the plan before recommending the extension to USCIS, so vague descriptions will cause delays.
How does cap-gap protection work if I'm on STEM OPT and my employer files an H-1B petition?
If your employer files a timely H-1B petition before your STEM OPT expires, cap-gap protection extends your work authorization automatically through September 30 of the relevant fiscal year. You can continue working as a DevOps Lead without interruption during this period. USCIS provides guidance on cap-gap eligibility, and your DSO should update your I-20 to reflect the extended status.
Where can I find DevOps Lead jobs with employers that are already set up to hire STEM OPT students?
Migrate Mate lists DevOps Lead roles filtered for employers with E-Verify enrollment and a history of hiring OPT and STEM OPT candidates. This removes the guesswork of researching each company individually. Targeting employers already familiar with the I-983 training plan requirement reduces offer-to-start delays and lowers the risk of authorization complications after you've accepted an offer.
