Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding STEM OPT Authorization as an Epic Systems Analyst
Verify your CIP code before applying
Check that your degree's CIP code appears on the DHS STEM Designated Degree Program List. Degrees in health informatics, computer science, or information systems typically qualify, but the exact code on your transcript determines eligibility, not the degree title.
Confirm E-Verify enrollment before accepting offers
Ask HR directly whether the organization is enrolled in E-Verify before you sign anything. Health systems and hospital networks often operate through subsidiary legal entities, so the specific employer of record must be enrolled, not just the parent organization.
Target Epic module specializations in your applications
Epic implementations are module-specific: Ambulatory, Inpatient, Beacon, Willow. Tailor your resume and application to the modules you've trained on or certified in, since hiring managers filter by module match, not just general Epic experience.
File your I-983 training plan before your OPT end date
Your DSO must submit the I-983 to activate the STEM OPT extension. Work with your employer to complete the training plan sections detailing your Epic analyst responsibilities, learning objectives, and supervision structure well before your initial OPT expires.
Use Migrate Mate to find E-Verify enrolled employers
Searching for STEM OPT-compatible Epic analyst roles means filtering for E-Verify enrolled health systems. Migrate Mate surfaces verified employer enrollment status so you're not chasing leads that can't legally hire you on the extension.
Use OFLC Wage Search to benchmark offers against prevailing wage
Epic analysts fall under SOC code 15-1211 (Computer Systems Analysts). Run the OFLC Wage Search for that code in your target metro before negotiating, since your employer's I-983 training plan must reflect bona fide employment at a competitive wage.

Find Epic Systems Analyst JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does my degree qualify me for the STEM OPT extension as an Epic Systems Analyst?
Your degree qualifies if its CIP code appears on the DHS STEM Designated Degree Program List. Degrees in computer science, health informatics, information systems, and biomedical engineering are commonly eligible. The qualifying factor is your CIP code, not your job title. Check your transcript and compare it against the official DHS list, then confirm eligibility with your DSO before applying.
Does my Epic Systems Analyst employer need to be enrolled in E-Verify?
Yes. E-Verify enrollment is a hard requirement for STEM OPT extensions. The specific legal entity that employs you must be enrolled, not just the parent health system or hospital network. Before accepting an offer, ask HR to confirm the employer of record's E-Verify company ID. You can verify enrollment through the E-Verify employer search tool directly.
What goes into the I-983 training plan for an Epic Systems Analyst role?
The I-983 must describe how your Epic analyst responsibilities connect to your STEM degree, your specific learning objectives, how your employer will supervise and evaluate you, and how the role provides practical training in your field of study. Your manager and DSO both sign the form. Generic job descriptions don't satisfy USCIS requirements, so work with your employer to write objectives tied to your actual module assignments.
How does cap-gap protection work if my employer files an H-1B petition before my STEM OPT expires?
If your employer files an H-1B petition on your behalf before your STEM OPT end date and you're selected in the lottery, cap-gap automatically extends your work authorization through September 30 of that fiscal year. You can continue working as an Epic analyst without interruption. USCIS issues a cap-gap extension automatically when the petition is accepted, and your DSO updates your I-20 to reflect the extended authorization.
Where can I find Epic Systems Analyst jobs where employers are set up to hire STEM OPT students?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for STEM OPT job seekers and surfaces roles at employers already enrolled in E-Verify, which is the core requirement for your extension. Filtering for Epic analyst roles on Migrate Mate removes the guesswork of checking each employer's E-Verify status manually, so you can focus your applications on organizations that can actually hire you.
