Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding STEM OPT Authorization as an Integration Developer
Verify your CIP code before applying
Check that your degree's Classification of Instructional Programs code appears on the STEM OPT designated degree list. Computer science, information systems, and software engineering codes all support Integration Developer roles, but business-focused MIS degrees sometimes don't qualify without a closer review.
Confirm E-Verify enrollment before accepting offers
Ask recruiters whether the hiring entity, not just the parent company, is enrolled in E-Verify before you sign anything. A subsidiary or staffing firm may not share enrollment with its corporate parent, which disqualifies your STEM OPT extension at that location.
Align your I-983 training plan to integration-specific skills
Your I-983 must name concrete learning objectives tied to your actual work. For Integration Developer roles, list specific technologies like REST API design, ETL pipelines, or middleware orchestration so the training plan reflects the engineering work USCIS expects for a STEM OPT approval.
Target employers with active LCA filing history
Use Migrate Mate to filter Integration Developer postings by employers who have filed Labor Condition Applications, which signals they understand work authorization requirements and have supported STEM OPT students through the extension process before.
Check prevailing wage levels before negotiating offers
Run your target job title and metro area through the OFLC Wage Search to find the DOL wage level that applies to your experience. Integration Developer roles span wage levels depending on system complexity, and knowing the floor protects you in salary negotiations and confirms LCA compliance.
Understand cap-gap coverage if your H-1B is selected
If you file an H-1B visa petition during your STEM OPT period and USCIS selects your registration, cap-gap automatically extends your work authorization through September 30 of that fiscal year. You don't need a new EAD to keep working, but your employer must keep your I-983 active until the H-1B takes effect.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does an Integration Developer role qualify for the STEM OPT extension?
Yes, if your employer maps your role to a STEM-designated SOC code such as Software Developers or Computer Systems Analysts, and your degree carries an approved CIP code, the role qualifies. Review your I-20 and confirm the degree field with your DSO before filing. O*NET lists the standard occupational classification for Integration Developer positions, which your employer will reference when completing your I-983 training plan.
What E-Verify requirement applies to my STEM OPT employer?
The specific legal entity that employs you must be enrolled in E-Verify before your STEM OPT extension start date. Enrollment by a parent company or affiliate doesn't satisfy this requirement if you're hired by a different subsidiary. Ask your HR contact to confirm the EIN on your offer letter matches the enrolled entity in E-Verify before you submit your STEM OPT application to your DSO.
How do I structure the I-983 training plan for an Integration Developer position?
Your I-983 must connect your daily engineering work to specific learning objectives rooted in your STEM degree. For Integration Developer roles, describe the technical skills you'll build, such as API integration patterns, middleware configuration, or data pipeline architecture. Vague descriptions like 'software development tasks' often draw scrutiny. Your employer's supervisor and DSO both sign the form, so align the language with your actual project scope before submitting.
How do I find Integration Developer jobs where employers understand STEM OPT?
Search Migrate Mate for Integration Developer roles filtered by employers with verified work-authorization filing history. Many listings on general job boards don't disclose E-Verify status or prior STEM OPT experience, which creates delays after an offer. Targeting employers who have already hired on STEM OPT reduces back-and-forth about E-Verify enrollment and I-983 requirements during onboarding.
What happens to my STEM OPT if my H-1B petition is filed but not yet approved?
If USCIS selects your H-1B registration and your employer files a timely petition before your STEM OPT expires, cap-gap protection kicks in automatically. Your STEM OPT authorization continues through September 30 of that fiscal year even if your EAD has already expired. You can keep working at your Integration Developer role without a new EAD, but you should carry your cap-gap documentation and a copy of your H-1B receipt notice at all times.
