Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding STEM OPT Authorization as a Workday Analyst
Verify your CIP code before applying
Check your degree's Classification of Instructional Programs code against the official STEM OPT CIP code list published by USCIS. Information Systems, Computer Science, and Business Analytics degrees commonly qualify, but the exact code on your transcript determines eligibility.
Confirm E-Verify enrollment before accepting offers
Ask hiring managers to confirm their E-Verify company ID number before you sign. Employers can self-certify verbally, but checking the E-Verify employer search directly gives you proof your authorization will be valid from day one.
Align your I-983 training plan with Workday modules
Your training plan must map each learning goal to a specific Workday module you'll configure or analyze, such as HCM, Payroll, or Financials. Vague objectives like 'gain ERP experience' get flagged by DSOs and delay your STEM OPT approval.
Target employers with active Workday implementation pipelines
Use Migrate Mate to filter for companies with verified E-Verify enrollment that are actively hiring Workday Analysts. Firms mid-implementation or expanding to new Workday tenants are structurally more likely to sponsor because the role is tied to a concrete project timeline.
Use OFLC Wage Search to benchmark your offer
Look up the prevailing wage for Business Intelligence Analysts or Software Quality Assurance Engineers in your metro area using OFLC Wage Search. Your offer must meet or exceed the DOL prevailing wage level for your role and location to satisfy STEM OPT employer requirements.
File your STEM OPT extension 90 days before expiration
USCIS allows you to apply up to 90 days before your initial OPT EAD expires. Filing early protects your continuous work authorization during processing, since an approved receipt notice extends your status automatically while USCIS adjudicates.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Workday Analyst role qualify for STEM OPT?
It depends on your degree's CIP code, not the job title alone. Workday Analyst positions typically involve data analysis, systems configuration, or enterprise software integration, which aligns with STEM OPT eligible fields like Information Systems, Computer Science, or Business Analytics. Confirm your degree's CIP code appears on the USCIS STEM Designated Degree Program list before your DSO endorses your I-20 for the extension.
What is the I-983 training plan and what should a Workday Analyst include?
The I-983 is the formal training agreement between you and your employer that documents how your Workday Analyst role provides practical training in your STEM field. Your plan should identify specific Workday modules you'll work with, measurable learning objectives tied to each module, your supervisor's oversight responsibilities, and how each goal connects to your STEM degree. Vague plans are the most common reason DSOs request revisions before endorsing the STEM OPT extension.
How do I verify that a Workday Analyst employer is enrolled in E-Verify?
E-Verify enrollment is a hard requirement for STEM OPT employers. You can confirm enrollment through the E-Verify employer search portal, which lists participating companies by name and location. If a prospective employer isn't listed, they cannot legally employ you on a STEM OPT extension, regardless of their willingness to sponsor. Raise this question before the offer stage to avoid delays.
How do I find Workday Analyst jobs that sponsor STEM OPT students?
Migrate Mate filters job listings for employers with verified E-Verify enrollment, which is the threshold requirement for STEM OPT sponsorship. Searching there narrows your pool to companies that are already set up to hire you legally, rather than discovering E-Verify gaps after an offer is extended.
What happens to my STEM OPT authorization if my Workday Analyst employer loses E-Verify enrollment?
If your employer's E-Verify enrollment lapses or is terminated after your STEM OPT begins, your work authorization is at risk. USCIS regulations require your employer to maintain E-Verify enrollment for the full duration of your STEM OPT period. You must report a material change in employer status to your DSO within five business days. Depending on timing, you may need to find a new E-Verify enrolled employer or face a gap in valid authorization.
