Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding STEM OPT Authorization as a Senior UX Engineer
Verify your CIP code before applying
Cross-reference your degree's CIP code against the DHS STEM Designated Degree Program List before you start applying. A computer science or HCI degree typically qualifies, but an arts-focused interaction design degree may not, and discovering the mismatch after an offer wastes everyone's time.
Confirm E-Verify enrollment before accepting offers
Ask recruiting coordinators to confirm their E-Verify company ID during the offer stage, not after you sign. Employers can check their own enrollment status through the E-Verify portal, and you can verify independently using the E-Verify employer search tool.
Build a portfolio that signals engineering depth
Senior UX Engineer roles require demonstrating both design thinking and front-end implementation. Include case studies showing code-level contributions alongside your UX process. Interviewers at companies actively filing STEM OPT training plans expect evidence of technical execution, not just Figma mockups.
File your I-983 training plan before your OPT end date
Your DSO must submit the I-983 to SEVIS before your 12-month OPT expires. The training plan must list specific UX engineering learning objectives tied to your STEM degree field. Vague objectives get flagged during ICE site visits, so tie each goal to a deliverable your employer will supervise.
Use Migrate Mate to target verified STEM OPT employers
Filter your Senior UX Engineer search on Migrate Mate to surface employers with active STEM OPT hiring history. This gets you to companies already familiar with E-Verify obligations and I-983 requirements, cutting the education burden during offer negotiations.
Check prevailing wage before negotiating your offer
Run your job title and location through the OFLC Wage Search to find the DOL prevailing wage for your level. Your offer must meet or exceed this figure for the training plan to remain compliant. The O*NET profile for UX Engineers also lists the wage zone and typical education requirements that support your STEM classification.

Find Senior UX Engineer JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Does a Senior UX Engineer role qualify for the STEM OPT extension?
Yes, if your employer designates the role under a STEM-eligible SOC code and your degree appears on the DHS STEM Designated Degree Program List. Computer science, information technology, and human-computer interaction degrees typically qualify. Your DSO will confirm the CIP code match when you request the STEM OPT recommendation from your school. Roles blending engineering and design work are generally approvable when the employer documents the technical scope in the I-983.
How do I confirm my employer is enrolled in E-Verify for STEM OPT?
STEM OPT requires your employer to be actively enrolled in E-Verify, not just registered. Ask your recruiter or HR contact for the company's E-Verify employer ID during the offer stage. You can also search the public E-Verify employer search tool using the company's legal name. Enrollment status can lapse, so confirming it at the offer stage prevents authorization gaps after you start.
What goes into the I-983 training plan for a Senior UX Engineer position?
The I-983 must list specific learning goals tied to your STEM degree, your employer's supervision plan, and how each objective advances your field of study. For a Senior UX Engineer, acceptable goals include prototyping systems architecture, leading accessibility engineering initiatives, or implementing design systems in code. Objectives must be measurable and directly tied to the technical aspects of the role, not general professional development. Your supervisor signs the form and is responsible for the 12-month evaluation.
What happens to my STEM OPT authorization if my employer changes its E-Verify enrollment?
If your employer loses E-Verify enrollment while you're on STEM OPT, your work authorization is at risk. USCIS requires continuous E-Verify enrollment for the duration of the extension. You must report a material change in employer status to your DSO within five business days. If enrollment lapses and cannot be restored, you may need to transfer to a new employer with active E-Verify status to maintain valid STEM OPT authorization.
Where can I find Senior UX Engineer jobs where the employer already understands STEM OPT requirements?
Migrate Mate filters Senior UX Engineer listings to show employers with verified STEM OPT hiring history, so you're not starting conversations with companies unfamiliar with E-Verify obligations or the I-983 process. Targeting employers who have sponsored STEM OPT students before shortens the negotiation cycle and reduces the risk of an offer falling through over compliance concerns your hiring manager didn't anticipate.
