Every day, tens of millions of people come to Roblox to explore, create, play, learn, and connect with friends in 3D immersive digital experiences– all created by our global community of developers and creators.
At Roblox, we’re building the tools and platform that empower our community to bring any experience that they can imagine to life. Our vision is to reimagine the way people come together, from anywhere in the world, and on any device. We’re on a mission to connect a billion people with optimism and civility, and looking for amazing talent to help us get there.
A career at Roblox means you’ll be working to shape the future of human interaction, solving unique technical challenges at scale, and helping to create safer, more civil shared experiences for everyone.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
As a Product Designer on Discovery, you'll help design the surfaces that connect billions of users with the best experiences for them — including home page, ranking, search, events, notifications, onboarding, and more. Working collaboratively within a cross-functional pod alongside product, research, data science, and engineering, you'll own end-to-end design work on small-to-medium projects with increasing independence as you grow.
You will:
- Own design work on Discovery projects end-to-end, operating with autonomy while proactively seeking guidance from senior teammates and your manager to sharpen your approach.
- Develop a strong understanding of user needs, behaviors, and motivations — grounding design decisions in research, analytics, and user feedback.
- Create visually compelling, intuitive user interfaces across devices and surfaces for a global audience, with care for craft and quality at every stage.
- Translate high-level product goals into clear, actionable design tasks and workflows, outlining a path to objectives and validating plans with senior teammates.
- Collaborate with the Design Systems team to apply existing patterns and UI components consistently, and contribute feedback to help evolve the system.
- Identify gaps in your knowledge and proactively address them — combining self-directed problem solving with collaborative refinement.
- Anticipate potential downstream impacts of your design decisions within your pod, and flag tradeoffs early to mitigate unintended consequences.
- Partner with engineering by delivering well-considered design specs, and stay engaged through implementation to maintain quality.
- Support and guide more junior colleagues on projects, share your perspective in ideation sessions, and help cultivate a collaborative team culture.
- Build cross-functional relationships and begin to understand how your work connects to — and affects — teams and systems beyond your immediate pod.
- Contribute to design reviews and present your work clearly, incorporating feedback to refine and strengthen outcomes.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
You have:
- A bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Product Design, User Experience Design, Fine Arts, Graphic Design, or a related field.
- 3–5 years of experience in UX/UI design, with a portfolio demonstrating strong visual design skills and user-centered thinking across consumer products.
- Proficiency in design tools such as Figma, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar software.
- A solid understanding of user-centered design principles and best practices, with the ability to apply them independently on defined projects.
- Emerging systems thinking — an ability to connect your work to broader product patterns and longer-term team goals, with guidance from senior teammates.
- An analytical mindset: you critically evaluate inputs from multiple sources and integrate insights into your design decisions.
- Experience using data and user feedback to identify pain points and iterate on solutions.
- Effective collaboration skills and a track record of working well across disciplines; you're a dependable partner to peers, engineers, and PMs.
- A genuine passion for gaming, interactive media, or user-generated content platforms — and curiosity about what makes discovery experiences feel magical.
- A keen interest in industry trends and emerging design practices, with awareness of how they might inform your work.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding STEM OPT Authorization as a UX Designer
Verify your CIP code before applying
Check your degree's Classification of Instructional Programs code against the DHS STEM OPT Designated Degree Program List. Computer science, human-computer interaction, and information science CIP codes commonly support UX Designer roles, but graphic design degrees often don't qualify.
Build a portfolio that shows technical depth
UX roles at E-Verify-enrolled employers in tech and fintech expect portfolios demonstrating systems thinking, data-informed decisions, and cross-functional collaboration. Employers screening STEM OPT candidates want evidence your design process connects directly to your STEM degree's methodology.
Filter job listings by E-Verify enrollment status
Use Migrate Mate to search UX Designer openings filtered to employers enrolled in E-Verify. Applying to companies without E-Verify enrollment wastes your 60-day job-search window since they can't legally sign your I-983 training plan.
Negotiate your I-983 training plan before day one
Your employer's I-983 must describe how your UX role relates to your STEM degree, including learning objectives and supervision structure. Ask your hiring manager to loop in HR before your start date so the plan is ready to submit to your DSO on time.
Target employers with existing STEM OPT infrastructure
Companies that have previously hired STEM OPT students already understand E-Verify compliance and I-983 requirements. Searching DOL Labor Condition Application disclosures for employers who regularly hire in design and computer-related SOC codes narrows your list to experienced sponsors.
Understand cap-gap coverage if your H-1B is selected
If your H-1B registration is selected while you're on STEM OPT, cap-gap automatically extends your work authorization through September 30. Confirm with USCIS guidance that your employer maintains E-Verify enrollment through that period, since a lapse breaks your cap-gap protection.

Does a UX Designer role qualify for the STEM OPT extension?
It depends on your degree, not just your job title. UX Designer positions qualify for STEM OPT when your underlying degree holds an eligible CIP code, such as computer science, human-computer interaction, or information systems. Degrees in graphic design or fine arts typically don't appear on the DHS STEM OPT Designated Degree Program List, so verify your CIP code with your DSO before accepting an offer.
Why does my UX Designer employer need to be enrolled in E-Verify?
STEM OPT regulations require every participating employer to be enrolled in E-Verify because the program ties your work authorization to a formal training agreement with that specific company. Without active E-Verify enrollment, your employer can't legally sign your I-983 training plan, and USCIS won't approve your STEM OPT extension. You can confirm enrollment status through the E-Verify employer search tool. Migrate Mate filters UX Designer listings to show only E-Verify-enrolled employers.
What goes into an I-983 training plan for a UX Designer?
Your I-983 must connect your UX Designer duties directly to your STEM degree's curriculum. That means listing specific learning objectives, such as applying user research methodologies, prototyping systems, or conducting usability studies, alongside the supervision structure and how your employer will evaluate your progress. Your DSO signs off before submission, and the plan needs to be updated if your role or supervisor changes significantly during the 24-month extension period.
How does cap-gap work if I'm on STEM OPT and get an H-1B?
If USCIS selects your H-1B registration and your employer files a timely petition, cap-gap automatically extends your STEM OPT work authorization through September 30 of that fiscal year. Your employer must maintain E-Verify enrollment through the cap-gap period, and your I-983 training plan remains in effect. If the H-1B petition is denied or withdrawn, your cap-gap protection ends and you revert to your remaining STEM OPT time or must depart within 60 days.
How do I find UX Designer jobs where employers understand STEM OPT?
Migrate Mate lets you search UX Designer openings filtered to E-Verify-enrolled employers, which removes the guesswork of identifying companies that can legally hire STEM OPT students. Beyond the platform, prioritize employers in technology, fintech, and enterprise software sectors, where design roles are classified under computer-related SOC codes and HR teams typically have existing STEM OPT onboarding processes already in place.
