Strategy Jobs in Washington: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a strategy job in Washington?
Washington's strategy market is dominated by federal consulting firms, defense contractors, policy-focused nonprofits, and think tanks clustered around K Street, Capitol Hill, and the Pentagon area. Candidates with experience in government affairs, policy analysis, or management consulting gain a clear edge here. Familiarity with federal procurement cycles and security clearance eligibility strengthens applications considerably. Targeting mid-sized consulting shops and mission-driven organizations often opens doors faster than pursuing large contractors directly.
Which companies hire strategys in Washington?
Companies currently hiring strategys in Washington include Meta, CVS Health, and Guidehouse, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Washington's employer mix skews heavily toward government contractors, international development organizations, and policy-oriented consulting firms that rely on strategy professionals to navigate complex federal and geopolitical environments.
Are there remote strategy jobs in Washington?
Yes, though availability depends on the role, with analytical and corporate strategy positions more remote-friendly than client-facing government consulting roles that require on-site presence or clearance. About 79% of strategy openings tied to Washington are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting broader trends in the consulting and policy sectors. Research, competitive intelligence, and internal strategy functions tend to offer the most flexibility locally.
How can I get a strategy job in Washington with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Washington is through junior analyst or associate consultant roles at mid-tier federal consulting firms and nonprofits along the K Street and Dupont Circle corridors, which routinely hire recent graduates. Internships with policy institutes, federal agencies, or defense-adjacent organizations build the government-sector fluency Washington employers value. Candidates who can demonstrate familiarity with federal budget processes, policy frameworks, or program evaluation stand out among entry-level applicants here.
