This role offers many of the best elements of top-tier strategy consulting or similar work:
Exposure to senior executives and highly consequential business decisions
Opportunities to tackle the organization's most important strategic questions
A wide variety of business challenges across multiple parts of the enterprise
Significant responsibility and leadership opportunities early in your tenure
Coaching, mentorship, and ongoing professional development
While avoiding many of the traditional downsides:

The opportunity to see recommendations translated into action
Deep business context and long-term relationships with stakeholders
Direct visibility into the outcomes and impact of your work
The Team
The Business Strategy team serves as an internal strategy function for MassMutual’s business, with a focus on our revenue-generating areas of the enterprise. We work directly with executives and senior leadership teams on questions such as:
How should MassMutual evolve its affiliated distribution model to win in a rapidly changing advice landscape?
Where should we invest to drive long-term growth across insurance, wealth management, and institutional solutions?
What competitive threats and opportunities should inform our strategic priorities?
How can emerging trends create meaningful differentiation?
What choices will have the greatest impact on advisor, customer, and business outcomes?
The team focuses on four core areas:
Supporting Executive and Senior Leadership Team decision-making through high-impact strategy engagements
Advancing MassMutual's affiliated distribution and wealth management strategy toward holistic financial advice and sustainable growth
Providing thought leadership and strategic direction on third party distribution, product, marketing, and business model evolution
Managing the firm-wide Strategic Partnerships program, inclusive of building this function out further
The team brings backgrounds in strategy consulting, insurance, wealth management, and corporate strategy, with a shared focus on practical impact.
The Impact
As a Strategy Lead, you'll serve as a trusted advisor to senior leaders and help shape the strategic direction of critical parts of the business.
Your efforts will focus on:
Leading complex strategic projects that influence executive decision-making across affiliated distribution, wealth management, product, brand, marketing, institutional solutions, and third party distribution:
Structuring ambiguous business challenges into clear hypotheses, analytical workplans, and actionable recommendations
Synthesizing quantitative and qualitative insights into compelling executive-level communications
Driving stakeholder engagement across a broad range of business partners and leadership teams
Partnering with analysts to conduct research, develop analyses, and deliver high-quality strategic recommendations
Helping shape the strategic trajectory of our businesses through both formal strategy projects and ongoing thought leadership
Developing perspectives on industry trends, competitive dynamics, regulatory developments, emerging technologies, and evolving customer expectations
Developing and collaborating with partners across the enterprise on Board strategy deliverables including macro analysis of the external and competitive environment
Managing enterprise wide relationships with Strategic Partner firms, driving alignment and identification of additional partnership opportunities
Coaching and mentoring analysts while contributing to the development of the broader Business Strategy function
The strongest Strategy Leads combine rigorous problem solving with excellent judgment, communication, and relationship-building capabilities.
Successful team members demonstrate:
Insatiable intellectual curiosity and a genuine desire to learn
The ability to quickly understand complex business issues and identify the questions that matter most
Strong executive presence and the ability to communicate effectively with senior leaders
Exceptional analytical skills paired with practical business judgment
A collaborative, low-ego approach to working across organizational boundaries
A strong nose for value, helping leaders prioritize the opportunities that will drive the greatest impact
A commitment to developing others through coaching, mentorship, and active feedback
We believe strategy is ultimately about influence. The best recommendations create value only when they are understood, embraced, and acted upon by the organization.
Minimum Qualifications
