Structural Engineer Jobs in Columbus: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a structural engineer job in Columbus?
Focus your search on Columbus's infrastructure and commercial development sectors, where hiring is most consistent. The city's ongoing highway and bridge work through ODOT and Franklin County, combined with a wave of mixed-use development in the Short North and Franklinton, means engineering and construction firms are actively staffing. Candidates with AutoCAD, Revit, or bridge design experience stand out in Columbus's market, as does familiarity with Ohio Building Code applications on commercial projects.
Which companies hire structural engineers in Columbus?
Columbus structural engineer roles are posted by Dynotec, Osborn Engineering, and ms consultants and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Columbus attracts a mix of regional engineering consultancies, large general contractors, and public-sector agencies tied to city and state infrastructure programs.
Are there remote structural engineer jobs in Columbus?
Yes, though remote work is limited for structural engineers since much of the role involves site visits, field assessments, and hands-on coordination. About 38% of structural engineer openings tied to Columbus are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting the portion of work that is desk-based. Analytical tasks like load calculations, drawing reviews, and report writing are the most likely to be done remotely in Columbus-based roles.
How can I get a structural engineer job in Columbus with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Columbus is through an EIT or junior engineer role at a mid-size consultancy or a public works contractor working on ODOT or Columbus Public Utilities projects. Firms supporting the city's infrastructure expansion and Franklinton redevelopment regularly hire entry-level engineers to assist on documentation and field support. A degree from Ohio State, Ohio University, or another Ohio engineering program carries recognition with local hiring managers, and AutoCAD or Revit proficiency can offset limited field experience.
Which industries hire the most structural engineers in Columbus?
Columbus structural engineer roles concentrate in Consulting & Professional Services, Construction & Real Estate, and Retail, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Columbus's sustained investment in highway infrastructure, urban redevelopment along High Street and the Scioto Mile, and growth in data center and logistics construction all drive consistent demand across those sectors.
