About the Role
We’re looking for a Structural Engineer early in their career who wants to build a strong technical foundation while contributing meaningfully from day one. You’ll work alongside experienced engineers, gain exposure to a variety of project types, and develop the judgment and confidence that come from solving real‑world challenges.
What You’ll Do
- Support the analysis and design of structural systems for buildings across multiple sectors.
- Prepare calculations, drawings, and technical documentation with guidance from senior engineers.
- Use structural modeling and BIM tools to develop coordinated, buildable designs.
- Participate in site visits, field observations, and construction-phase problem solving.
- Collaborate closely with architects, project managers, and other disciplines to deliver integrated solutions.
- Engage in internal quality processes and contribute to continuous improvement efforts.
What We’re Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (Master’s a plus) from an ABET-accredited program.
- 0–4 years of structural engineering experience.
- Engineer Intern (EI) or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification.
- Interest in pursuit of Professional Engineer (PE) and/or Structural Engineer (SE) licensure.
- Familiarity with design codes (IBC, ASCE 7, ACI, AISC).
- Experience with analysis software (RISA, RAM) and CAD/BIM (Revit) platforms.
- Strong communication skills and a team‑oriented mindset.
The Traits That Matter Most
We’re especially interested in engineers who:
- Are curious and naturally inclined to dig into problems rather than wait for answers.
- Take initiative to seek out solutions, resources, and better ways of doing things.
- Show a genuine desire to grow their technical abilities and expand their understanding of the structural design environment.
- Embrace feedback as part of becoming a stronger engineer.
- Demonstrate ownership, reliability, and pride in the quality of their work.
These qualities are what set apart good engineers from great ones — and we invest heavily in people who bring them.
What We Offer
- Competitive compensation and benefits.
- Mentorship from experienced structural engineers.
- Support for professional development and PE/SE licensure.
- Opportunities to work on diverse, meaningful projects.
- A culture that values curiosity, initiative, and continuous improvement.

Structural Engineer Jobs in Tennessee: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a structural engineer in Tennessee?
Becoming a structural engineer in Tennessee requires licensure through the Tennessee State Board of Architectural and Engineering Examiners. The path starts with an ABET-accredited bachelor's degree in civil or structural engineering, followed by the Fundamentals of Engineering exam to earn Engineer-in-Training status. After gaining qualifying experience under a licensed PE, you sit for the Principles and Practice of Engineering exam in structural engineering to earn full Professional Engineer licensure in Tennessee.
Which companies hire structural engineers in Tennessee?
Employers hiring structural engineers in Tennessee right now include Apex Structural Engineering, Boston Government Services, and BNH, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Tennessee's mix of major infrastructure programs, growing commercial construction in Nashville, and industrial manufacturing across the state keeps demand steady across both large firms and regional engineering consultancies.
Which Tennessee cities have the most structural engineer jobs?
Chattanooga, Nashville, and Brentwood have the most structural engineer openings in Tennessee. Nashville drives the largest share through its sustained commercial construction boom and proximity to major transportation corridors, while Memphis supports steady infrastructure and industrial work tied to its freight and logistics economy, and Knoxville benefits from federal facilities, University of Tennessee projects, and regional highway programs.
Are there remote structural engineer jobs in Tennessee?
Yes, but they're rare. About 41% of structural engineer openings tied to Tennessee are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting how much of the work depends on site visits, field observations, and in-person collaboration with contractors. The tasks most likely to be done remotely are structural modeling, drawing production, and report writing, which some firms accommodate through hybrid arrangements.
How can I get hired as a structural engineer in Tennessee with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying for engineer-in-training or junior structural engineer roles at Tennessee-based engineering consultancies and public agencies. AECOM, Jacobs, and the Tennessee Department of Transportation regularly bring on new graduates for project support roles in bridge design and transportation structures. Earning your EIT credential before graduation and building a portfolio with senior capstone or internship projects gives you a clear edge with Tennessee employers who value candidates already on the licensure path.
Where can I find and apply to structural engineer jobs in Tennessee?
You can find and apply to structural engineer jobs in Tennessee on Migrate Mate, which lists current Tennessee openings across employers and metro areas. Find the roles that fit your experience and specialty and apply directly.
