Structural Engineer Jobs in San Antonio: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a structural engineer job in San Antonio?
The strongest hiring in San Antonio comes from civil and infrastructure firms supporting TxDOT projects and Bexar County transportation work, along with defense contractors serving Joint Base San Antonio and federal facilities. Commercial construction around the North Central and Stone Oak corridors also drives consistent openings. Candidates with experience in bridge design, military facility upgrades, or mixed-use development stand out in this market. A P.E. license accelerates hiring at the mid-level and above.
Which companies hire structural engineers in San Antonio?
Companies currently hiring structural engineers in San Antonio include Parsons, Golden Wolf, and Garver, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. San Antonio's employer mix leans toward engineering consulting firms with public-sector contracts, defense-related primes, and regional construction groups tied to the city's ongoing infrastructure and urban growth.
Are there remote structural engineer jobs in San Antonio?
Yes, though structural engineering is less remote-friendly than many disciplines because site visits, inspections, and coordination with contractors are core to the work. About 75% of structural engineer openings tied to San Antonio are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, skewing toward roles focused on design modeling and documentation rather than field oversight. Hybrid arrangements are more common than fully remote.
How can I get a structural engineer job in San Antonio with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in San Antonio is joining a mid-size civil or structural consulting firm that supports TxDOT or Bexar County contracts, where junior engineers assist on bridge or roadway projects with close mentorship. Entry-level EIT roles at firms near the Medical Center or downtown redevelopment zones are also a solid starting point. Familiarity with AutoCAD, Revit, or RISA software, along with a completed internship in Texas, gives newer candidates a concrete edge locally.
Which industries hire the most structural engineers in San Antonio?
San Antonio structural engineer roles concentrate in Manufacturing, Construction & Real Estate, and Consulting & Professional Services, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. San Antonio's heavy investment in military base infrastructure, regional highway expansion, and large-scale commercial and healthcare construction keeps demand across these sectors consistently active.
