Student Services Counselor Jobs in Utah: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a student services counselor in Utah?
The path depends on the setting. For K-12 school counseling, Utah requires an educator license with a school counseling endorsement issued through the Utah State Board of Education, which requires a master's degree in school counseling and a supervised practicum. For higher education or nonprofit roles, a bachelor's or master's degree in counseling, social work, or a related field is typically sufficient, with no state licensure required.
Which companies hire student services counselors in Utah?
Companies currently hiring student services counselors in Utah include University of Utah, Utah Valley University, and Weber State University, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Utah's large public university system and extensive K-12 district network mean institutional employers dominate hiring across the state.
Which Utah cities have the most student services counselor jobs?
Salt Lake City, Orem, and Ogden post the most student services counselor openings in Utah. Salt Lake City leads because it anchors the University of Utah, Salt Lake Community College, and the state's largest school districts, while Provo benefits from Utah Valley University and Brigham Young University, and Ogden draws volume from Weber State University and Ogden City School District.
Are there remote student services counselor jobs in Utah?
Yes, but they're limited, since most student services counselor work involves in-person advising, campus presence, and direct student interaction. About 40% of student services counselor openings tied to Utah are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, and the roles that do offer flexibility tend to be in financial aid advising, virtual academic coaching, or college access outreach rather than frontline counseling.
How can I get hired as a student services counselor in Utah with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry point is an academic advising assistant or student services coordinator role at a Utah community college such as Salt Lake Community College or Snow College, both of which regularly hire newer graduates. Student affairs roles in residence life, admissions, or financial aid at Utah's public universities also provide a direct bridge. Completing a supervised practicum through a Utah master's program or volunteering with a college access program like College Advising Corps Utah strengthens any application without prior professional experience.
Where can I find and apply to student services counselor jobs in Utah?
You can find and apply to student services counselor jobs in Utah on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. Search the available roles, find the ones that match your background and preferred location, and apply directly to the employers posting them.
