Entry Level Surgical Oncologist Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get an entry level surgical oncologist job?
Entry level surgical oncologist roles typically require completion of a surgical residency and, increasingly, a fellowship in surgical oncology. Candidates who can demonstrate hands-on operative experience, strong letters of recommendation from attending surgeons, and familiarity with multidisciplinary tumor boards stand out at this stage. Targeting academic medical centers and NCI-designated cancer centers often gives new graduates the clearest path to their first attending position.
Which companies hire entry level surgical oncologists?
Companies hiring entry level surgical oncologists right now include OneOncology, Novant Health, and CommonSpirit Health, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Hiring at this level tends to come from academic health systems, regional cancer centers, and large multispecialty physician groups that regularly onboard fellowship-trained surgeons into their oncology programs.
Are there remote entry level surgical oncologist jobs?
Yes, though the majority of surgical oncologist roles are on-site given the hands-on nature of the specialty. About 11% of entry level surgical oncologist openings are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, and these positions typically involve telehealth consultations, tumor board participation, or research roles rather than direct operative work.
Are these new grad surgical oncologist jobs?
Yes, these listings include new grad, recent graduate, and junior surgical oncologist roles. A posting is typically new-grad friendly when it welcomes candidates completing residency or fellowship, does not require prior independent attending experience, and considers internship rotations or training-program case volume in lieu of years of practice. Searching for new grad openings here surfaces those explicitly open to early-career surgeons.
Which industries hire the most entry level surgical oncologists?
Entry Level surgical oncologist roles concentrate in Healthcare & Medical Services and Education, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. These sectors drive hiring at the entry level because they maintain dedicated oncology service lines and regularly recruit fellowship-trained surgeons to expand cancer care capacity.
