Systems Development Engineer Jobs in Louisiana: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a systems development engineer in Louisiana?
Most systems development engineer roles in Louisiana require a bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related discipline. Louisiana does not issue a state-specific license for this role, but engineers working on infrastructure tied to licensed systems may coordinate with the Louisiana Professional Engineering and Land Surveying Board. Employers across Baton Rouge and New Orleans consistently favor candidates who hold cloud certifications and have hands-on experience with automation tooling.
How much do systems development engineers make in Louisiana?
Systems development engineers in Louisiana earn a median of about $102,800 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $66,350 for the lowest 10% to over $151,780 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire systems development engineers in Louisiana?
Companies currently hiring systems development engineers in Louisiana include Saronic Technologies, Lemoine, and InCentrik, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Louisiana's energy sector and state government agencies are particularly active sources of sustained hiring for this role.
Which Louisiana cities have the most systems development engineer jobs?
New Orleans, Baton Rouge, and Lafayette hold the most systems development engineer openings in Louisiana. Baton Rouge drives much of the volume through its concentration of energy companies, state government IT departments, and university research institutions, while New Orleans attracts demand from healthcare systems, logistics technology firms, and expanding private-sector employers in the metro.
Are there remote systems development engineer jobs in Louisiana?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 19% of systems development engineer openings tied to Louisiana are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting how much of the work involves code, configuration, and cloud tooling rather than physical presence. Tasks like pipeline maintenance, infrastructure provisioning, and code review are the most consistently offered in remote formats.
How can I get hired as a systems development engineer in Louisiana with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is securing a junior DevOps, systems analyst, or IT operations associate role at a large Louisiana employer or state agency, then building toward systems development responsibilities from within. ExxonMobil's Baton Rouge campus and Entergy both run structured early-career technical programs. Candidates transitioning from adjacent roles like network administrator, database administrator, or software QA analyst tend to move in most quickly, especially when they hold a current cloud certification from AWS or Google.
Where can I find and apply to systems development engineer jobs in Louisiana?
