Tax Associate Jobs in San Diego: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a tax associate job in San Diego?
Focus your search on downtown San Diego's financial district, UTC, and Sorrento Valley, where accounting firms and corporate tax departments cluster. San Diego's defense, biotech, and real estate sectors drive consistent hiring and value candidates with experience in federal contracting tax rules, R&D credits, or partnership returns. Familiarity with California's unique tax code alongside federal compliance gives local candidates a real edge in interviews.
Which companies hire tax associates in San Diego?
San Diego tax associate roles are posted by Andersen, H&R Block, and Hutchinson and Bloodgood LLP and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of November 2026. Hiring tends to be split between regional CPA firms, Big Four offices, and the in-house tax teams of San Diego's large biotech and defense employers.
Are there remote tax associate jobs in San Diego?
Yes, though it depends on the role: compliance research and return preparation work is more remote-friendly than client-facing or audit-support positions. About 100% of tax associate openings tied to San Diego are remote or hybrid as of November 2026, reflecting a broader shift among professional services firms. Corporate tax teams at San Diego's biotech and tech companies tend to offer the most hybrid flexibility.
How can I get a tax associate job in San Diego with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in San Diego is joining a regional CPA firm or a Big Four office downtown as a tax staff associate, where structured training programs bring new graduates up to speed quickly. San Diego's biotech sector also hires junior tax coordinators to support in-house teams on R&D credit tracking. Strong Excel skills, any internship experience at a local firm, and an active pursuit of the CPA exam signal seriousness to San Diego hiring managers.
