Tax Director Jobs in San Jose: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a tax director job in San Jose?
Focus on the sectors that dominate San Jose hiring: semiconductor and chip design, enterprise software, and venture-backed technology companies. Most openings cluster in North San Jose's tech campuses and the Downtown financial district. Candidates with public company tax experience, ASC 740 expertise, or a background handling international transfer pricing stand out in this market, where many employers operate global subsidiaries and have complex multi-jurisdictional structures.
Which companies hire tax directors in San Jose?
Employers hiring tax directors in San Jose right now include SingerLewak LLP, ATR, and BPM, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. San Jose's hiring base leans heavily toward publicly traded technology corporations, growth-stage semiconductor companies, and large financial institutions with regional headquarters in the South Bay.
Are there remote tax director jobs in San Jose?
Yes, though remote availability is moderate for tax directors, since many roles require close coordination with legal, finance, and executive teams on-site. About 55% of tax director openings tied to San Jose are remote or hybrid as of July 2026. Strategic tax planning, research, and compliance review functions tend to be the most remote-friendly portions of the role in San Jose's tech-heavy employer base.
How can I get a tax director job in San Jose with little or no experience?
The most realistic path is moving up through a senior tax manager or international tax manager role at one of San Jose's mid-size technology or semiconductor companies, which often promote from within when candidates have four to six years of corporate tax experience. Firms in North San Jose and the Santana Row corridor frequently hire senior tax managers who grow into director roles. A CPA license and exposure to equity compensation accounting, which is common in San Jose's startup ecosystem, accelerates that transition.
Which industries hire the most tax directors in San Jose?
Most tax director openings in San Jose sit in Accounting & Auditing, Consulting & Professional Services, and Medical Devices, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. San Jose's position as the core of Silicon Valley means technology and semiconductor companies generate the largest share of demand, driven by complex international tax structures, frequent M&A activity, and ongoing equity compensation programs that require dedicated senior tax leadership.
