Financial Reporting Manager Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a financial reporting manager in California?
Most financial reporting managers in California follow a path from public accounting through industry roles, building toward management. A bachelor's degree in accounting or finance is the standard foundation, and a CPA license issued or reciprocally recognized by the California Board of Accountancy gives candidates a clear hiring edge. Large California employers typically promote from within their senior accountant or accounting manager ranks once candidates demonstrate technical expertise in SEC reporting and close management.
Which companies hire financial reporting managers in California?
Employers hiring financial reporting managers in California right now include Create Music, Glaukos, and Applied Materials, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. California's mix of publicly traded technology companies, entertainment studios, and major financial institutions creates consistent demand for professionals with SEC reporting and consolidation experience.
Which California cities have the most financial reporting manager jobs?
Los Angeles, Aliso Viejo, and San Francisco have the most financial reporting manager openings in California. San Francisco and San Jose benefit from a dense cluster of publicly traded technology and financial services firms that require dedicated reporting teams, while Los Angeles draws demand from media conglomerates, entertainment studios, and the large regional banks headquartered there.
Are there remote financial reporting manager jobs in California?
Yes, and more than many finance roles, since financial reporting work is largely desk-based and document-driven. About 31% of financial reporting manager openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting the analytical nature of the work. The portions most commonly offered remotely are SEC drafting, technical accounting research, and financial statement review, while roles with direct team supervision or board-facing responsibilities tend to require more in-office presence.
How can I get hired as a financial reporting manager in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through a staff or senior accountant role in public accounting at a firm with California-based clients, where exposure to audit and SEC work builds the technical foundation employers expect. Large California companies such as technology firms in the Bay Area and entertainment companies in Los Angeles hire new graduates into rotational finance programs and staff accounting roles that feed into reporting functions. Earning CPA licensure through the California Board of Accountancy and gaining hands-on exposure to consolidation or close processes from adjacent roles like financial analyst or accounting analyst accelerates the move into management.
Where can I find and apply to financial reporting manager jobs in California?
