Tax Director Jobs in Boston: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a tax director job in Boston?
Target Boston's densest hiring sectors: financial services firms in the Financial District, life sciences and biotech companies in Kendall Square and the Longwood Medical Area, and professional services firms in Back Bay and Seaport. Candidates with experience in ASC 740, tax provision work, or multistate compliance stand out here. Building relationships through local CPA society events and Boston-area finance networking groups gives a real edge in this market.
Which companies hire tax directors in Boston?
Employers hiring tax directors in Boston right now include PwC, BDO, and CBIZ, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Boston's mix of large financial institutions, global biotech and pharma companies, and mid-market professional services firms creates consistent demand for senior tax leadership across a wide range of organizational sizes.
Are there remote tax director jobs in Boston?
Yes, though tax director roles skew less remote than purely analytical positions, given the collaboration with CFOs, legal counsel, and external auditors that the job requires. About 16% of tax director openings tied to Boston are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, with hybrid arrangements being far more common than fully remote. Strategic and compliance oversight functions are most likely to allow flexible arrangements at Boston employers.
How can I get a tax director job in Boston with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Boston is moving up through a senior tax manager role at one of the city's Big Four or regional accounting firms, several of which have major offices downtown and in the Financial District. Mid-market professional services firms and growing life sciences companies in the Seaport and Kendall Square corridors often promote from within. Earning a CPA license and building ASC 740 or federal tax compliance experience sharpens your candidacy significantly for Boston-based employers.
Which industries hire the most tax directors in Boston?
The sectors hiring the most tax directors in Boston are Accounting & Auditing, Consulting & Professional Services, and Insurance, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Boston's position as a hub for asset management, private equity, and global biotech creates concentrated, recurring demand for senior tax expertise that few other U.S. cities match at this density.
