Tax Intern Jobs in Washington: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a tax intern in Washington?
Most tax intern positions in Washington require active enrollment in an accredited accounting or finance program, with at least one federal taxation course completed. Washington does not require interns themselves to hold a CPA license, but many employers prefer candidates pursuing CPA eligibility under Washington State Board of Accountancy requirements, which include a bachelor's degree and specified accounting credits. Applying directly to public accounting firms during campus recruiting cycles or through a university career center is the most reliable path.
Which companies hire tax interns in Washington?
Companies currently hiring tax interns in Washington include RSM, BDO, and Andersen, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Washington's concentration of large technology headquarters and regional offices of national public accounting firms means corporate tax and multistate compliance internships are particularly common in the state.
Which Washington cities have the most tax intern jobs?
Seattle, Spokane, and Bellevue account for the largest share of tax intern openings in Washington. Seattle and Bellevue dominate because they host the headquarters and major regional offices of large technology companies and national accounting firms, while Tacoma draws openings from regional CPA practices, healthcare systems, and local government entities that need tax compliance support.
Are there remote tax intern jobs in Washington?
Yes, and more than most fields, since tax research and compliance work is largely document-based and can be done off-site. About 100% of tax intern openings tied to Washington are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting the desk-based nature of the role. Tax research, return preparation, and workpaper documentation are the tasks most commonly performed remotely, while client meetings and internal reviews more often require in-person attendance.
How can I get hired as a tax intern in Washington with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying through your university's accounting program recruiting events, since firms like Deloitte, PwC, and KPMG run structured internship programs through Washington schools including the University of Washington Foster School of Business and Seattle University. Volunteering with the IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program at a Washington site builds hands-on preparation experience that strengthens applications. Candidates who have completed a basic tax software course or earned a Registered Tax Return Preparer credential stand out when competing for limited entry-level spots.
Where can I find and apply to tax intern jobs in Washington?
You can find and apply to tax intern jobs in Washington on Migrate Mate, which lists current Washington openings updated regularly. Search the available roles, identify the positions that match your experience and availability, and apply directly to whichever ones fit your background.
