Tax Intern Jobs in Pennsylvania: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a tax intern in Pennsylvania?
Most tax intern roles in Pennsylvania require active enrollment in an accredited accounting or finance program, since firms typically recruit candidates who will sit for the CPA exam after graduation. Pennsylvania licensure is governed by the State Board of Accountancy, which requires a bachelor's degree and credit hours in accounting before you can become a licensed CPA. Completing relevant tax coursework and earning high marks in accounting classes is the most direct path to landing a competitive internship with a Pennsylvania firm.
Which companies hire tax interns in Pennsylvania?
Employers hiring tax interns in Pennsylvania right now include RSM, BROWN PLUS, and Hill, Barth & King, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Pennsylvania's concentration of Big Four offices in Philadelphia and mid-size regional firms in Pittsburgh and the Lehigh Valley means there are openings at a wide range of firm sizes throughout the state.
Which Pennsylvania cities have the most tax intern jobs?
Philadelphia, Blue Bell, and York have the most tax intern openings in Pennsylvania. Philadelphia leads because it hosts the largest concentration of Big Four, national, and regional accounting firms, while Pittsburgh's corporate headquarters and financial sector drive strong demand there, and the Lehigh Valley benefits from the regional offices of major manufacturers and professional services firms headquartered along the I-78 corridor.
Are there remote tax intern jobs in Pennsylvania?
Yes, and more than most entry-level finance roles, since tax work is largely analytical and document-driven. About 50% of tax intern openings tied to Pennsylvania are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting a broader shift in how accounting firms staff their busy seasons. Tax compliance and research tasks are the most commonly offered as fully remote, while client advisory and audit-support rotations tend to remain in-person.
How can I get hired as a tax intern in Pennsylvania with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry point is applying directly to the campus recruiting programs that Big Four and large regional firms run at Pennsylvania universities, including Drexel, Penn State, Temple, and Duquesne, where firms hire with the expectation of training candidates from scratch. Adjacent roles such as bookkeeping assistant, accounting clerk, or payroll processor at a small Pennsylvania business build practical exposure and are commonly used as a bridge into a tax internship. Passing at least one section of the CPA exam or completing a tax-focused certificate through a Pennsylvania community college can also set a candidate apart when competing without prior internship experience.
Where can I find and apply to tax intern jobs in Pennsylvania?
You can find and apply to tax intern jobs in Pennsylvania on Migrate Mate, which lists current Pennsylvania openings updated regularly. Search the available roles, find the ones that match your background and target location, and apply directly to each employer through the listing.
