Technology Intern Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a technology intern in California?
The most direct path is enrolling in a computer science, software engineering, or information systems program at a California university or community college, then applying to internship programs during your studies. California's concentration of tech employers means many companies recruit directly from UC campuses, Cal State schools, and coding bootcamps. Building a portfolio of personal or class projects and contributing to open-source work strengthens applications significantly before a first formal internship.
Which companies hire technology interns in California?
Employers hiring technology interns in California right now include Keysight Technologies, Infineon Technologies, and Joby Aviation, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. California's density of established tech headquarters and fast-growing startups means intern programs here often lead to return offers and full-time roles within the same organization.
Which California cities have the most technology intern jobs?
Santa Rosa, Los Angeles, and San Carlos have the most technology intern openings in California. San Francisco and San Jose anchor the Bay Area's concentration of software and cloud companies, while Los Angeles has grown into a major hub for entertainment technology, fintech, and aerospace firms that run competitive intern pipelines year-round.
Are there remote technology intern jobs in California?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 12% of technology intern openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting how much of the work involves writing code, analyzing data, or contributing to digital products that don't require physical presence. Software development and data analytics roles are the most likely to offer fully remote arrangements.
How can I get hired as a technology intern in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying to structured new-grad or undergraduate intern programs at large California employers, which are designed specifically for candidates without professional experience. Companies like Salesforce, Intel, and Qualcomm run formal intern cohorts each summer that prioritize academic projects and coursework over prior employment. Building a GitHub portfolio with two or three completed projects and completing a relevant certification in cloud computing or data analysis gives candidates a clear edge in California's competitive applicant pool.
Where can I find and apply to technology intern jobs in California?
