Marketing Intern Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a marketing intern in California?
Marketing internships in California require no state-issued license or certification, so the path runs through education and portfolio building. Most employers expect current enrollment in or recent completion of a bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, business, or a related field. California's large university system, including UC and CSU campuses, connects students directly with internship pipelines at local employers. Building a portfolio with real campaign work, even from class projects or volunteer roles, significantly strengthens applications.
How much do marketing interns make in California?
Marketing interns in California earn a median of about $94,700 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $48,440 for the lowest 10% to over $181,600 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire marketing interns in California?
Employers hiring marketing interns in California right now include TikTok, BioMarin Pharmaceutical, and Ariat International, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. California's mix of technology headquarters, entertainment studios, and consumer brand offices means marketing intern roles appear across a wider range of industries here than in most other states.
Which California cities have the most marketing intern jobs?
Los Angeles, San Francisco, and San Jose lead California for marketing intern openings. Los Angeles dominates because of its entertainment, fashion, and direct-to-consumer brand concentration, San Francisco and the surrounding Bay Area draw openings from technology and SaaS companies, and San Diego contributes through its biotech, defense, and hospitality sectors, each of which runs active marketing teams that take on interns.
Are there remote marketing intern jobs in California?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 25% of marketing intern openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting how much of the work involves content creation, analytics, and digital campaign management that travels well outside an office. Social media, email marketing, and SEO-focused intern roles are the most likely to be offered fully remote.
How can I get hired as a marketing intern in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying to formal intern programs at large California employers before completing your degree. Companies like Salesforce, Disney, and major California-based consumer brands run structured summer internship cohorts designed for students with no prior professional marketing experience. UC and CSU career centers post exclusive listings from California employers looking specifically for early-stage candidates. A concise portfolio showing one or two self-initiated projects, such as a managed social account or a mock campaign, consistently gives candidates with no job history a competitive edge.
Where can I find and apply to marketing intern jobs in California?
You can find and apply to marketing intern jobs in California on Migrate Mate, which lists current California openings updated regularly. Search the listings for roles that match your schedule, location, and specialization, then apply directly to the employers posting them. No signup or profile creation is needed to see the openings.
