Marketing Intern Jobs in Illinois: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a marketing intern in Illinois?
Marketing intern roles in Illinois require no state-issued license or certification. The most direct path is enrollment in a bachelor's program in marketing, communications, business, or a related field at an Illinois university, such as the University of Illinois, DePaul University, or Loyola University Chicago. Employers in Chicago and surrounding suburbs look for candidates with coursework in digital marketing or consumer behavior, a portfolio of class or personal projects, and any campus organization or volunteer marketing experience.
Which companies hire marketing interns in Illinois?
Companies currently hiring marketing interns in Illinois include Plante Moran, Shure, and Komatsu, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Illinois's large concentration of Fortune 500 headquarters and mid-size consumer brands in the Chicago metro makes it one of the more intern-active markets in the Midwest.
Which Illinois cities have the most marketing intern jobs?
Chicago, Peoria, and Niles have the most marketing intern openings in Illinois. Chicago dominates because it is home to the region's densest cluster of corporate headquarters, advertising agencies, and consumer brands, while suburban hubs like Schaumburg and Evanston generate openings through large retail and financial services employers that maintain significant Illinois operations.
Are there remote marketing intern jobs in Illinois?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 73% of marketing intern openings tied to Illinois are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting the desk-based, digital nature of much of the work. Content creation, social media coordination, and market research tasks are the functions most often performed fully remotely, while roles involving on-site shoots, event support, or in-person agency collaboration tend to require a physical presence.
How can I get hired as a marketing intern in Illinois with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying to structured internship programs at large Illinois employers before finishing your degree. Companies like Walgreens, Kraft Heinz, and Aon run formal summer internship cohorts that specifically target students with limited professional history. Campus marketing roles, nonprofit volunteer work, and student-run agency projects at Illinois universities serve as credible substitutes for paid experience. Building a concise portfolio showing real campaign results, even from class assignments, significantly strengthens applications for competitive Chicago-area programs.
Where can I find and apply to marketing intern jobs in Illinois?
