Therapist Jobs in Minneapolis: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a therapist job in Minneapolis?
The strongest hiring in Minneapolis comes from community mental health organizations, large integrated health systems in and around the Midtown and downtown corridors, and outpatient group practices in Uptown and South Minneapolis. Candidates with experience in trauma-informed care, co-occurring disorders, or culturally responsive practice stand out in this market. Tailoring your application to the specific population each employer serves gives you a clear edge over generalist applicants.
Which companies hire therapists in Minneapolis?
Employers hiring therapists in Minneapolis right now include Park River Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, Allina Health, and Fairview Health Services, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Minneapolis draws a mix of large nonprofit behavioral health agencies, federally qualified health centers, and private group practices serving the metro's diverse communities.
Are there remote therapist jobs in Minneapolis?
Yes, though remote work is more limited for therapists than for purely desk-based roles given the hands-on, relational nature of clinical work. About 0% of therapist openings tied to Minneapolis are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting telehealth expansion across the region. Teletherapy roles are most common among outpatient group practices and employee assistance program providers serving Minneapolis-area clients.
How can I get a therapist job in Minneapolis with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Minneapolis is through practicum or internship placements at community mental health centers in neighborhoods like Phillips or Near North, which regularly convert interns to paid staff. Entry-level case manager and therapeutic support specialist roles at Minneapolis nonprofits are common stepping stones. Bilingual candidates, particularly those speaking Somali, Spanish, or Hmong, are in especially high demand across the city's community health organizations.
