Therapist Jobs in Portland: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a therapist job in Portland?
Portland's strongest hiring happens in community mental health centers, federally qualified health centers, and outpatient behavioral health clinics, particularly in East Portland and the inner Southeast corridor. Candidates with experience in trauma-informed care, substance use disorders, or co-occurring conditions stand out in this market. Familiarity with Oregon Health Plan billing and a caseload background in underserved populations also gives applicants a real edge with the employer types that hire most here.
Which companies hire therapists in Portland?
Employers hiring therapists in Portland right now include Reliant Rehabilitation, Providence, and HiredFirst, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Portland's therapist market includes a mix of large health systems, nonprofit community agencies, and group private practices that collectively maintain steady year-round openings.
Are there remote therapist jobs in Portland?
Yes, though remote work is more limited for therapists than for desk-based roles given the hands-on, relational nature of clinical practice. About 18% of therapist openings tied to Portland are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting platforms and group practices that have expanded telehealth services. Telehealth-only positions are most common in outpatient counseling and EAP-affiliated roles tied to Portland employers.
How can I get a therapist job in Portland with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Portland is through practicum or internship placements at community mental health agencies, which frequently convert to paid associate-level positions for candidates who complete hours toward licensure. Nonprofit behavioral health organizations in East Portland and the Jade District regularly hire associate therapists and case manager roles that build clinical hours. Emphasizing any practicum work with Oregon Health Plan populations, crisis intervention training, or bilingual skills strengthens applications considerably with Portland's community-based employers.
Which industries hire the most therapists in Portland?
Portland therapist roles concentrate in Healthcare & Medical Services, Education, and Consulting & Professional Services, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Portland's large nonprofit sector, its integrated behavioral health infrastructure tied to Oregon's Coordinated Care Organizations, and a growing number of employer-sponsored EAP providers collectively drive consistent local demand for licensed and associate-level therapists.
