Principal Energy & Analytics Consultant
Location: US Remote
Ready to make a difference?
We are seeking a technically strong Principal Energy & Analytics Consultant to join our Energy Analytics and Sightline DER teams and help utilities and public‑sector clients navigate a rapidly evolving energy landscape. This role sits at the intersection of distributed energy resources (DERs), demand‑side programs, advanced energy analytics, and long‑term planning—supporting some of the most consequential decisions facing the power system today. You will lead analytically complex, high‑impact consulting engagements; guide multidisciplinary teams; and work directly with clients to turn sophisticated modeling and data analysis into clear, actionable strategies.
This is an opportunity for an impact‑driven energy professional who thrives at the intersection of analytics, energy systems, and client advisory work. In this role, you will combine hands‑on technical leadership with project and client engagement, translating rigorous analysis into real‑world outcomes that advance decarbonization, grid resilience, and affordability—helping move ideas from analysis to implementation.
Why you will love working here:
- Quality of life: Flexible workplace arrangements, work-life balance
- Investment in the community: Donation matching, volunteer opportunities
- Investment in you: Tuition reimbursement, access to professional development resources, 401k matching, Employee Stock Purchase Plan
- And many more (ask your recruiter for details)
What you will be doing:
Client Leadership & Trusted Advisory
- Serve as a senior client lead and trusted advisor for complex DER/DSM analytics engagements, building strong relationships with utility stakeholders and delivering clear, defensible guidance for executive and regulatory conversations.
- Lead client problem framing and decision narrative development, connecting affordability, equity, customer behavior, portfolio performance, and grid needs into coherent recommendations that enable earlier, higher confidence decisions.
- Lead day to day engagement execution from initial framing through analysis, delivery, and follow on decision support, ensuring recommendations are grounded in real client data and implemented through durable workflows.
Analytics & Technical Oversight
- Establish a scalable analytics foundation by defining model ready data standards and pipelines (e.g., AMI, CIS, program participation, grid and third party data), including QA/QC, validation, reconciliation, and refresh processes that enable governed, reusable datasets.
- Lead rigor in digital twin, AMI, and portfolio analytics by defining quality and confidence frameworks (e.g., completeness thresholds, outlier handling, uncertainty characterization) so results are transparent, explainable, and suitable for planning and regulatory use.
- Translate advanced analytics into decision workflows by connecting customer segmentation, portfolio scenario analysis, and grid aware insights into actionable outputs—such as target lists, scenarios, and recommendations—that inform program design and system value assessment.
Practice & Team Development
- Mentor consultants and analysts working on technically complex projects, strengthening both analytical capability and consulting judgment.
- Act as a bridge between data science, engineering, and consulting teams to ensure analytics are tightly aligned with client needs.
- Contribute to internal capability building through knowledge sharing, standards development, and methodological guidance.
Business Development & Thought Leadership
- Support proposal development, solution shaping, and client positioning for analytics‑heavy and strategy‑led pursuits.
- Contribute to internal and external thought leadership through whitepapers, presentations, and conference participation.
What we need you to have (minimum qualifications):
- Advanced degree (PhD, MS, or equivalent) in engineering, energy systems, policy, or a related field
- 8+ years of experience in energy analytics, DER planning, building energy modeling, or applied energy policy
- Demonstrated experience leading complex, analytics‑driven client engagements
- Strong ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to non‑technical and executive audiences
- Experience working with utilities, regulators, national labs, or public‑sector organizations
What we’d like you to have (preferred qualifications):
- Deep expertise in building stock, DER, or energy system modeling
- Experience operating at the intersection of technical analysis and public policy
- Record of publications, presentations, or recognized thought leadership in energy or climate analytics
- Experience working in matrixed or multi‑disciplinary consulting environments

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship as an Analytics Consultant
Frame your credentials around consulting duties
TN approval for Analytics Consultants hinges on the Management Consultant category. Your degree and job offer letter must both emphasize advisory and diagnostic work, not just data analysis or reporting. A title like 'data analyst' without consulting framing raises category-fit issues at the border.
Target employers experienced with visa sponsorship
Companies experienced with work visa sponsorship move faster and make fewer classification mistakes. Look for employers with recent visa filings to identify which ones may sponsor TN roles in analytics or consulting—these companies typically understand the documentation requirements and approval processes for specialized positions, including preparing support letters and navigating port-of-entry or consulate procedures.
Get your offer letter to specify project scope
CBP officers assess whether the role genuinely involves diagnosing and recommending solutions, not just executing tasks. Your offer letter should describe the business problems you'll analyze and the organizational impact of your recommendations, not just tools or deliverables.
Use Migrate Mate to find employers already set up for TN sponsorship
Not every employer understands TN visa mechanics for analytics roles. Migrate Mate filters for companies with active sponsorship history, so you're talking to hiring managers who already know the category and won't stall at the offer stage.
Prepare for the one-year renewal cycle strategically
TN status is granted in one-year increments for Mexican nationals at consulates, while Canadians typically receive three-year admission periods at the border. Build renewal timelines into your employment contract discussions so your employer isn't caught off guard by recertification paperwork.
Clarify multi-client work arrangements before filing
Analytics Consultants sometimes work across several client accounts simultaneously. CBP can question whether a multi-client structure reflects independent contracting rather than genuine employment, so your employer should be prepared to confirm you're on their payroll and under their direction.

Find Analytics Consultant JobsAnalytics Consultant TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does the Analytics Consultant role actually qualify for a TN visa?
Yes, if your duties align with the Management Consultant category under USMCA. CBP looks for work that involves diagnosing business problems and recommending solutions, not just running reports or building dashboards. Your offer letter and degree need to support a consulting framing. Roles that are primarily technical execution without an advisory component can face pushback at the border.
How does TN compare to H-1B for Analytics Consultant positions?
TN has no lottery and no annual cap for Canadians, so you're not waiting years for a visa slot. H-1B selection is random and increasingly competitive, with most applicants not selected. TN approval can happen the same day at the Canadian border. The trade-off is that TN doesn't lead directly to a green card and must be renewed, while H-1B can support an immigrant visa petition.
How do I find employers willing to sponsor TN visas for analytics roles?
Start with Migrate Mate, which surfaces companies with recent visa filings and experience sponsoring work visas for analytics and consulting positions. Many employers are open to TN but don't advertise it, so targeting firms with a demonstrated history of visa sponsorship saves time. You can also research companies directly to see if they've hired international talent in similar roles, which signals openness to the TN process.
What documents do I need before my TN application as a Canadian citizen?
You'll need a valid Canadian passport, a detailed offer letter from your U.S. employer describing the consulting duties and confirming the position is temporary, and proof of your qualifying degree in a relevant field such as statistics, economics, or business analytics. Canadian citizens apply directly at the port of entry and don't need a consulate appointment in advance.
Can I switch employers while on a TN visa as an Analytics Consultant?
Yes, but you need new TN authorization before starting work for the new employer. Canadians can go to the border with a new offer letter; Mexican nationals must return to a U.S. consulate. There's no grace period that allows you to start working for the new company first, so time the transition carefully to avoid an unauthorized employment gap.
