Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship as an Application Development Lead
Align your credentials to Computer Systems Analyst
TN classification for this role falls under Computer Systems Analyst, not a generic tech category. Your degree transcript must show a field directly related to software development or information systems, or USCIS may question the fit at the port of entry.
Target employers experienced with visa sponsorship
Companies experienced with visa sponsorship already have internal processes and legal counsel familiar with work visa categories. Search Migrate Mate to identify which tech employers have recent visa filings for development roles—a strong indicator they understand sponsorship requirements and can support your TN application.
Get the support letter right before applying
Canadian TN applicants enter at the port of entry with a support letter, not a filed petition. The letter must state your specific duties as an Application Development Lead, your qualifying degree, and the temporary nature of the engagement. Vague letters cause denials on the spot.
Search TN-sponsoring companies on Migrate Mate
Filter by TN visa and the Application Development Lead role on Migrate Mate to surface employers already set up to sponsor this category. Leading with a targeted list cuts the time you spend on employers who won't move forward with TN applicants.
Clarify your Mexican TN allocation status early
Mexican nationals face an annual cap under the USMCA, unlike Canadians. Confirm with your prospective employer whether the allocation for the current fiscal year is still available before you both invest time in the offer and documentation process.
Prepare for lead-level duty scrutiny at adjudication
Officers assess whether your day-to-day duties genuinely match Computer Systems Analyst. For a Lead role, make sure your offer letter distinguishes technical architecture and development oversight from purely managerial functions, which may not satisfy the specialty occupation requirement.

Find Application Development Lead JobsApplication Development Lead TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does an Application Development Lead role qualify for TN visa sponsorship?
Yes, provided the role is classified under the Computer Systems Analyst TN category and requires a bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or a directly related field. The actual title matters less than the duties. If the position centers on software architecture, development oversight, and technical decision-making, it typically satisfies the category's requirements. Roles that shift toward general management with minimal technical duties can run into classification issues.
How does TN visa sponsorship compare to H-1B for this role?
TN is significantly more straightforward for Application Development Lead positions. There's no annual lottery, no cap for Canadian citizens, and Canadians can apply directly at the port of entry without filing a petition months in advance. H-1B requires USCIS filing, premium processing fees, and lottery selection. TN also renews indefinitely in three-year increments. The trade-off is that TN doesn't support dual intent, so it's not a direct path to a green card the way H-1B can be.
What documents does my employer need to provide for my TN application?
Your employer must produce a support letter on company letterhead that specifies your job title, a description of duties tied to the Computer Systems Analyst category, your start date, the temporary nature of the position, and your compensation. For Mexicans, the employer also files a petition with USCIS. For Canadians, no pre-filing is required, but the letter must be thorough enough to withstand scrutiny at the port of entry without additional supporting materials.
Where can I find Application Development Lead jobs that already offer TN visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate lets you search specifically for Application Development Lead roles filtered by TN visa sponsorship, so you're only seeing employers already prepared to sponsor this category. Reaching out cold to employers who haven't sponsored TN workers before adds weeks of internal alignment before they can move forward, so starting with a pre-filtered list makes a real difference in your timeline.
Can I switch employers after entering the U.S. on a TN visa as an Application Development Lead?
Yes, but your TN status is tied to the specific employer listed in your documentation. Before starting with a new company, that employer must either file a new TN petition with USCIS or, for Canadian nationals, you return to a port of entry with a new support letter from the incoming employer. You can't begin work for the new employer until the new TN authorization is in place, so coordinating the timing with your current end date is essential.
