Engineering a world of possibilities
ABOUT THE JOB
Postdoctoral Scholar - Mines NIST PREP Lead Data Infrastructure Engineer
The Opportunity:
Colorado School of Mines and the Statistical Engineering Division at the National Institute of Standards and Technology are seeking immediate applications for a post-doctoral position focusing on leading the development of scientific computing applications and tools. The tools will include both public-facing web infrastructure and code bases used by bench scientists for data collection and analysis. Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship as a Cloud Infrastructure Engineer
Align your credentials to USMCA categories
TN visa eligibility for cloud infrastructure work flows through the Computer Systems Analyst category. Confirm your degree is in computer science, engineering, or a directly related field before applying, since a mismatch in credential framing is the most common early-stage obstacle.
Target employers with active infrastructure teams
Prioritize companies running multi-cloud or hybrid environments where the infrastructure role is clearly distinct from general IT support. Employers already managing cloud compliance programs tend to move faster on TN paperwork because the specialty occupation argument is self-evident.
Request a detailed offer letter early
Your TN filing lives or dies on the offer letter. Ask your employer to specify cloud platforms, technical scope, and the degree requirement for the role before you accept. A vague letter can stall a CBP officer or consular review for Mexicans applying at a U.S. consulate.
Use Migrate Mate to find sponsoring employers
Searching broadly wastes time on employers unfamiliar with TN mechanics. Use Migrate Mate to filter for Cloud Infrastructure Engineer roles where employers have confirmed TN visa sponsorship, so your outreach focuses on companies already set up to file.
Prepare documentation for Mexican consulate timelines
Mexican nationals apply at a U.S. consulate, unlike Canadians who can present at a port of entry. Schedule your DS-160 appointment and gather your employer's support letter, offer letter, and credential evidence well before your intended start date, since consulate wait times vary by location.
Negotiate a TN renewal plan before you start
TN status is granted in three-year increments with no cap on renewals. Before your first day, confirm with your employer that they'll support renewal filings and understand that each renewal requires a current offer letter reflecting your active role and compensation.
Cloud Infrastructure Engineer TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Cloud Infrastructure Engineer role qualify for TN visa status?
Yes, Cloud Infrastructure Engineer roles typically qualify under the USMCA's Computer Systems Analyst category, provided your job duties center on designing, implementing, or managing cloud systems rather than general technical support. Your offer letter must describe duties tied to specialized cloud infrastructure work, and your degree should be in computer science, engineering, or a closely related field.
How does TN visa sponsorship compare to H-1B for cloud infrastructure roles?
TN is significantly more practical for most Cloud Infrastructure Engineer candidates. There's no annual lottery for Canadians, no cap wait, and employers can file at a port of entry the same day for Canadian nationals. H-1B visa requires surviving a random lottery before any petition is filed. For Mexican nationals, TN still requires a consulate appointment, but the timeline is far more predictable than H-1B's registration cycle.
Where can I find Cloud Infrastructure Engineer jobs that offer TN visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for this search. It surfaces Cloud Infrastructure Engineer roles where employers have confirmed TN visa sponsorship, saving you from applying to postings where the hiring team has never processed a TN filing. Filtering by sponsorship type from the start keeps your pipeline focused on employers who can actually move forward with you.
Can I switch employers while on a TN visa in a cloud infrastructure role?
Yes, but you need a new TN authorization tied to your new employer before you start work. For Canadian nationals, that means your new employer prepares a fresh offer letter and supporting documentation, which you present at a port of entry. Mexican nationals must schedule a new consulate appointment. You can't carry your existing TN status to a new employer the way some other visa types allow.
What happens if my Cloud Infrastructure Engineer duties shift significantly after I start?
If your core duties change enough that they no longer reflect what your TN petition described, your status could be technically misaligned. This is common in cloud roles where scope expands into architecture or management. Talk to your employer about whether an amended filing or a new TN designation is needed before your next renewal to avoid complications at the border or consulate.
