Align your credentials to Management Consultant
TN visa officers assess Commercial Relationship Manager roles against the Management Consultant category. Your degree and job duties must center on analyzing client needs and recommending solutions, not sales targets or account maintenance alone.
Request a duties letter before accepting
Ask the hiring manager to draft your TN support letter before you sign an offer. The letter must frame your role around consulting and advisory functions, not revenue generation, to satisfy USCIS or CBP classification criteria.
Target banks and credit unions experienced with visa sponsorship
Financial institutions experienced with visa sponsorship already have internal HR processes for work authorization support. Filtering your search to employers with recent visa filings cuts onboarding friction significantly.
Search TN-sponsored roles through Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter Commercial Relationship Manager openings by employers with active TN visa sponsorship history. That filter surfaces roles where the hiring process is already structured around nonimmigrant professionals, saving weeks of employer education.
Prepare for port-of-entry filing as a Canadian
Canadian citizens can complete TN admission at a U.S. land border or preclearance airport. Bring your degree transcripts, the employer support letter, and a copy of your offer letter. CBP officers make the determination on the spot.
Understand the Mexican TN consulate appointment process
Mexican citizens must schedule a nonimmigrant visa interview at a U.S. consulate, which adds two to eight weeks depending on wait times. Factor consulate scheduling into your start date negotiation so your employer sets a realistic onboarding timeline.
Commercial Relationship Manager TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Commercial Relationship Manager role qualify for TN visa status?
It can qualify under the Management Consultant TN category, but only if the role centers on analyzing client business needs and providing expert recommendations rather than pure sales or account management. Job titles alone don't determine TN eligibility. The actual duties described in your employer's support letter and offer documentation must align with consulting and advisory functions as defined under USMCA.
How does TN visa compare to H-1B for Commercial Relationship Manager positions?
TN has no annual lottery and no cap for Canadian citizens, so you can start the process as soon as you have an offer. H-1B visa requires registration in April's lottery, a wait until October 1 to begin work, and years of employer dependence tied to green card sponsorship. TN approval can happen at a port of entry in the same day for Canadians, while H-1B processing runs months even with premium filing.
Where can I find Commercial Relationship Manager jobs that already offer TN visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for this search. You can filter roles by visa type and see which employers have structured their hiring around TN and other nonimmigrant professionals. That's materially different from running a general job search and then cold-asking each employer whether they'll support a TN filing, which frequently stalls at HR.
Can my employer file my TN petition on my behalf, or do I handle it myself?
For Canadian citizens using port-of-entry admission, you present the documentation directly to CBP, but the employer prepares the support letter and offer materials that make the case. For Mexican citizens and any employer-filed I-129 petition, the employer is the petitioner and drives the USCIS process. Either way, the employer's letter is the most critical document in the file.
What happens to my TN status if I change employers or move to a different bank?
TN status is employer-specific. Changing employers requires a new TN authorization before you start with the new company. Canadian citizens can obtain a new TN at a port of entry with the new employer's documentation. Mexican citizens and those seeking a change of status must file a new I-129 through USCIS. Do not resign from your current role until the new TN authorization is confirmed.
