Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship as a County Attorney
Confirm your bar admission transfers
TN status requires a law degree, but county governments also require active bar membership in the state where you'll practice. Research reciprocity rules before applying, since admission-on-motion timelines vary widely by state.
Target county and municipal legal offices
County Attorney roles sit inside government, making them less likely to use outside immigration counsel and more likely to need your help navigating the TN filing process. Smaller counties with legal staff vacancies often have more flexibility than large urban offices.
Prepare a TN-specific offer letter template
The offer letter must state your job title as Attorney, the duration of employment, and that the role requires a law degree. Bring a draft to salary negotiations so your employer knows exactly what CBP requires before your Canadian border crossing or Mexican consular appointment.
Search TN-sponsored legal roles on Migrate Mate
Filter specifically for County Attorney and government counsel positions with TN visa sponsorship using Migrate Mate. Most general job boards don't surface employer immigration history, making it harder to identify which counties have sponsored foreign-trained lawyers before.
Account for Mexican applicants' annual TN cap
Mexican citizens have a fixed annual allocation of TN visas under USMCA, unlike Canadians who face no cap. File as early in the fiscal year as possible and confirm with your prospective county employer that they understand consular processing timelines before you accept an offer.
Clarify who prepares the employer support letter
County governments aren't always familiar with TN visa sponsorship processes for legal roles. Confirm before signing that your future employer's HR or legal team understands the TN visa requirements for your position. For Canadian applicants, ensure they'll prepare a support letter for your port of entry presentation; for Mexican applicants, confirm they'll provide the necessary documentation for your consulate application.

Find County Attorney JobsCounty Attorney TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a County Attorney role qualify for TN visa sponsorship?
Yes. The TN visa category explicitly includes Attorney as a qualifying profession under USMCA, and County Attorney positions meet the definition because they require a law degree and active bar membership. The role must involve practicing law, not just legal administration, and your employer's offer letter must reflect that.
How does TN visa sponsorship for County Attorney compare to H-1B?
TN is significantly more accessible for this role. There's no annual lottery, no cap for Canadian citizens, and processing for Canadians can happen at the border on the day of travel. H-1B requires employer-sponsored registration, a lottery selection, and filing months in advance. For a qualifying government legal role, TN is the faster path by a wide margin.
Will a county government employer know how to sponsor a TN visa?
Many county legal offices have limited experience with immigration filings. You'll often need to walk HR through the process, including the offer letter requirements and documentation needed for your port of entry or consulate presentation. Coming prepared with a checklist of what CBP or the consulate requires makes the process much smoother for both sides.
Where can I find County Attorney jobs that offer TN visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for Canadian and Mexican professionals seeking TN visa sponsorship in the U.S. You can filter by job title and visa type to find County Attorney and government counsel roles where employers have indicated sponsorship willingness, which saves you from cold-applying to offices unfamiliar with the TN process.
Can Mexican citizens apply for County Attorney roles on a TN visa?
Yes, but the process differs from Canadian applicants. Mexican TN applicants must go through a U.S. consulate rather than a land border port of entry, and Mexico's annual TN allocation under USMCA is capped. Filing early in the year and confirming your prospective employer understands consular timelines reduces the risk of delays after accepting an offer.
