INTRODUCTION
The Senior Project Engineer - Electrical will work with overhead cranes/hoists in the Konecranes Nuclear Equipment and Services (KNES) business, completing Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) coupled with final commissioning. This engineer will be able to read/design electrical schematics, use AutoCAD Electrical, perform electrical calculations, program PLCs using ladder logic and design HMI applications (primarily Rockwell and Siemens), perform field startups & testing, work in industrial environments, have detailed knowledge of electric motor controls, utility circuits, safety circuits, and operator controls, as related to overhead cranes and hoists. This engineer will be able to troubleshoot and resolve problems including but not limited to circuit breakers, transformers, motor starters, contactors, relays, A.C./D.C. inverters, braking resistors, etc. Startups and field service activities can be both domestic and internationally and may last for 1-2 months at a time.
Responsibilities:
- Function as a lead electrical/software engineer at site/office and provide technical supervision to other electrical engineers, technicians, craft, and other workers on a daily basis for the site/office. Work with the project manager to establish work requirements, determine what is needed at the site to keep customer acceptance moving forward, meet schedules, and daily review of work activities. Work and support the Installation Site Supervisor.
- Be able to troubleshoot and update/modify computer programs such as PLC code or HMI programs that automate specific business processes.
- Be able to understand, read, design, and mark up single line diagrams, schematics, panel layouts, interconnect, and conduit drawings released by Engineering. These “as-built” drawings and mark-ups must be returned to Engineering so configuration control can be maintained.
- Calculate wire sizes, drive sizes, braking resistors, transformers, contactors, and overload protection for any model crane up to 800 volts D.C. and up to 4160 volts A.C. from schematics or other information provided by customer specifications using appropriate electrical codes and appropriate Konecranes standards.
- Participate in Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and solve problems (shop or field) by working with other engineers and service technicians, along with persons in other departments, to research and define problems, research, and prepare solutions by properly communicating with the necessary personnel.
- Be the engineering/software lead at the site to get the equipment ready for testing and then accomplish the testing in the most effective path forward as possible. This would include going through the Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) procedure, step by step, with the customer to prove the equipment works as intended.
- Excellent customer relations attitude: the individual needs to be a solution-oriented person that will work to satisfy the customer and complete the testing/start up as expeditiously as possible. The willingness and drive to self-teach/learn new material and understand design concepts.
- Provide input to design improvements by providing information to the chief engineer that shows improved functions and/or cost reduction.
- Non-engineering responsibilities include working with project managers to meet project deadlines, and work with purchasing to specify parts.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED SKILLS & COMPETENCIES:
- Knowledgeable with using and applying the NEC electrical code, UL508A including international standards.
- Ability to lead and work with others to maximize their productivity. Extremely important is the ability to be customer focused and work with even the most challenging individuals.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- 5 to 10 years of electrical engineering experience in doing field startups, wiring, PLC and HMI programming, and experience in setting up variable frequency drives. Rockwell PLC/HMI, Siemens PLC/HMI, Magnetek VFDs, Siemens VFDs programming preferred.
- 4-year Electrical Engineering degree (BSEE, BSEET) or equivalent.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to do at least 15% travel.
- The ability to climb up 50+ feet of vertical ladders.
- Be able to travel domestically and internationally to nuclear and government facilities.
- Be able to stay in the field for durations of 1 month at a time with 15% in the field.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship as an Electrical Project Engineer
Align your credentials to Engineer category requirements
TN status requires a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a closely related field. A degree in electronics engineering typically qualifies; a general technology diploma usually does not. Confirm your credential maps directly before applying.
Target employers with active project backlogs
Electrical Project Engineers are hired project-by-project in construction, utilities, and industrial sectors. Prioritize employers with multi-year infrastructure or energy contracts, since TN sponsorship requires a specific, non-speculative job offer tied to defined project scope.
Search TN-sponsoring companies through Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter Electrical Project Engineer roles by employers with documented TN visa hiring history. This cuts the time spent cold-applying to companies unfamiliar with USMCA professional categories.
Request a detailed offer letter covering project scope
CBP officers assess whether your role genuinely fits the Engineer category. Your offer letter should specify the engineering activities involved, not just your job title. Vague descriptions like 'project support' raise scrutiny at the port of entry.
Clarify your PE licensure status with your employer early
Some U.S. employers require a Professional Engineer license for project sign-off authority. A Canadian P.Eng. or Mexican Ing. doesn't automatically transfer. Confirm whether your employer needs licensure before the offer stage to avoid renegotiating later.
Prepare for Canadian border processing with complete documentation
Canadian citizens applying at a U.S. port of entry need the job offer letter, degree credentials, and a TN support letter from their employer. CBP officers decide on the spot, so incomplete packages result in same-day denial with no appeal window.

Find Electrical Project Engineer JobsElectrical Project Engineer TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does an Electrical Project Engineer role qualify for TN visa status?
Yes, provided the role requires and you hold a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a closely related field. TN status under the Engineer category covers project management functions that are engineering-driven, such as system design oversight, technical specification development, and construction coordination. Roles that are primarily administrative or procurement-focused may not qualify, even if the job title includes 'engineer.'
How does TN compare to H-1B for Electrical Project Engineer positions?
TN has no lottery, no annual cap for Canadians, and no USCIS petition required for Canadian applicants. H-1B requires a lottery selection, a multi-month USCIS filing process, and an October 1 start date. For Electrical Project Engineers with a qualifying degree, TN is faster to obtain and easier to renew, making it the more practical path for most Canadian and Mexican professionals.
Can I switch employers while on TN status as an Electrical Project Engineer?
Yes, but your TN status is tied to your current employer and job offer. When you accept a new position, your new employer must support a fresh TN application before you begin work. For Canadians, that means a new port-of-entry application. For Mexicans, it requires a new consular appointment. You cannot start working for the new employer on your existing TN.
Where can I find Electrical Project Engineer jobs with TN visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for Canadian and Mexican professionals seeking TN-eligible roles in the U.S. You can filter by job title and visa type to surface employers with recent visa filings—a strong indicator they're experienced with work visa sponsorship. This is far more efficient than sorting through general job boards where sponsorship willingness is rarely disclosed upfront.
Does my project engineering work experience substitute for a degree on a TN application?
Not directly. The TN Engineer category requires a baccalaureate or licenciatura degree in engineering. Work experience alone does not satisfy this requirement under USMCA, unlike some other visa categories where experience can substitute for education. If your degree is in a related science or technology field rather than engineering specifically, you may need to document how the coursework aligns with electrical engineering practice.
