Match your degree to the TN category
EHS roles can qualify under engineer, chemist, or scientist depending on your credential. Confirm your degree field aligns with the TN category your employer will cite before accepting an offer, since a mismatch triggers a denial at the border.
Request a detailed TN support letter
Ask your employer to specify your job duties, degree requirement, and the exact TN category in the support letter. Vague letters citing generic safety oversight without tying responsibilities to a specialty occupation are a common reason CBP officers ask for secondary inspection.
Target employers with industrial or manufacturing operations
EHS roles at construction firms, chemical plants, and manufacturers generate consistent TN sponsorship demand. These industries face OSHA compliance obligations that require dedicated professionals, making them more likely to sponsor than corporate offices with outsourced safety programs.
Search for TN-sponsoring EHS employers using Migrate Mate
Filter EHS job listings by TN visa sponsorship using Migrate Mate. The platform surfaces roles where employers have already indicated willingness to sponsor, so you spend time on applications that can actually move forward rather than cold-screening job descriptions.
Prepare CRSP or CSP credentials before applying
Canadian and Mexican EHS professionals who hold a Certified Safety Professional or Canadian Registered Safety Professional designation stand out in interviews and strengthen the specialty occupation argument CBP officers evaluate at entry. Get certified before your job search if you haven't already.
Understand the Mexican TN appointment timeline
Mexican citizens apply for TN status at a U.S. consulate, not at the border. Consular wait times vary by location and season. Build at least four to six weeks into your start date negotiation so your employer doesn't lose patience before your visa is issued.

Find Environmental Health And Safety JobsEnvironmental Health And Safety TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does an Environmental Health and Safety job qualify for a TN visa?
Yes, but the qualifying TN category depends on your degree. An EHS role tied to a chemistry or environmental science degree typically fits the scientist category. A role requiring an engineering degree fits the engineer category. The job title itself doesn't determine eligibility, the degree field and job duties must align with a USMCA-listed occupation.
How does the TN visa compare to H-1B for EHS professionals?
The TN visa has no annual lottery and no numerical cap for Canadians, so you can obtain status as soon as you have a job offer and qualifying credentials. H-1B selection is lottery-based with roughly a one-in-four chance each year. For EHS professionals who meet TN's specialty occupation standard, the TN is faster and far more predictable than H-1B.
What documents does my employer need to provide for TN sponsorship?
Your employer provides a support letter on company letterhead that describes your job duties, confirms your degree requirement, states your TN category, identifies the employer, and specifies your start date and duration. The employer does not file anything with USCIS for Canadian applicants, the letter is presented directly to CBP at the port of entry alongside your credentials.
Where can I find EHS jobs that offer TN visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for Canadian and Mexican professionals seeking U.S. roles with TN visa sponsorship. You can filter by job category and visa type to surface EHS listings from employers already open to TN candidates, which eliminates the guesswork of screening postings that never mention visa status.
Can I switch EHS employers while on a TN visa?
Yes, but you need a new TN authorization for the new employer before you start working there. Canadian citizens can apply at the border with the new employer's support letter. Mexican citizens must schedule a new consular appointment. You cannot simply transfer TN status the way some other visa categories allow portability.
