Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship as a Field Service Specialist
Match your credentials to TN categories
Field Service Specialist roles typically qualify under engineer or scientific technician classifications. Your degree or credential must directly correspond to the listed category, so confirm the exact TN classification your employer plans to use before accepting an offer.
Target manufacturers with field service divisions
Industrial equipment, medical device, and instrumentation companies regularly sponsor TN visas for Field Service Specialists. Look for postings that explicitly list travel requirements and technical troubleshooting duties, which signal genuine specialty occupation work that supports TN classification.
Request an offer letter covering all TN requirements
Your employer's offer letter must state your job title, duties, TN category, salary, and employment period. Gaps in any of these fields are the most common reason CBP officers request additional documentation at the port of entry.
Prepare for CBP review of your technical credentials
Canadian applicants apply directly at the border, so CBP officers review your credentials on the spot. Bring certified transcripts, credential evaluations if your degree is from outside North America, and any professional licenses relevant to the equipment or systems you service.
Search for TN-ready Field Service roles on Migrate Mate
Migrate Mate filters job listings by TN visa sponsorship history, so you can focus on Field Service Specialist openings at employers already familiar with the process rather than cold-applying and explaining TN eligibility from scratch.
Clarify your work location before filing
Field Service Specialists often cover multi-state territories. If your role involves assignments at client sites across states, confirm with your employer how the offer letter and TN petition will describe your worksite, since CBP and USCIS both scrutinize location details.

Find Field Service Specialist JobsField Service Specialist TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Field Service Specialist role qualify for TN visa sponsorship?
It depends on your specific duties and credentials. Field Service Specialist positions that require a bachelor's degree in engineering or a closely related technical field, and involve diagnosing, repairing, or installing complex equipment, typically qualify under the engineer or scientific technician TN category. Roles that are primarily sales-oriented or do not require degree-level technical expertise are less likely to qualify.
How does the TN visa compare to the H-1B for Field Service Specialist positions?
The TN visa has no annual lottery and no numerical cap for Canadian citizens, so you can apply at the port of entry and begin work immediately once approved. The H-1B has an annual cap and requires your employer to file months in advance, with no guarantee of selection. For Mexicans, TN requires a consular appointment, but it still avoids the H-1B lottery entirely. Processing is generally faster under TN for both nationalities.
What documents does my employer need to prepare for my TN application?
Your employer must provide a signed offer letter that includes your job title, a description of your duties, the TN professional category being claimed, your salary, and the intended employment period. For roles involving travel to client sites, the letter should also describe the nature of those assignments. Canadian applicants present this letter directly to CBP at the border, while Mexican nationals submit it as part of their consular packet.
How can I find Field Service Specialist jobs that already support TN visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for USMCA professionals and filters listings by TN visa sponsorship history, so you can identify Field Service Specialist openings at employers who have already navigated the process. This saves you the time of applying to companies unfamiliar with TN requirements and reduces the back-and-forth of explaining your eligibility.
Can my TN visa be extended if my Field Service Specialist contract is renewed?
Yes. TN status is initially granted in three-year increments and can be renewed indefinitely as long as you maintain a valid job offer in a qualifying TN occupation. Your employer files an extension with USCIS before your current status expires, or you can reapply at the border as a Canadian citizen. There is no lifetime limit on TN renewals for this role.
