Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship as a Head Of Operations
Frame your credentials around USMCA categories
The TN visa has no standalone Operations Manager category. You'll need to position your Head of Operations role under Management Consultant, which requires demonstrating that the work involves advising on management systems, not just running day-to-day operations.
Target employers with established cross-border hiring
Companies that already employ Canadian or Mexican professionals in director-level roles are significantly easier to work with. Look for employers whose job postings reference USMCA or TN status, signaling they understand the sponsorship process without requiring extensive education.
Get your offer letter drafted before anything else
The TN offer letter is the foundation of your entire application. It must specify the Management Consultant praxis, your professional credentials, the project scope, and the employer's need. A vague letter is the leading cause of CBP refusals at the border.
Use Migrate Mate to find vetted sponsoring employers
Searching broadly wastes time on employers unfamiliar with TN requirements. Migrate Mate filters Head of Operations roles by verified sponsorship history, so you can focus your outreach on companies already set up to file for TN workers.
Clarify your role scope before the CBP interview
CBP officers will question whether a Head of Operations role is consulting or managing. You need a clear, rehearsed explanation of how your position involves independent analysis and recommendations, not just executing policies set by others. This distinction determines approval.
Renew your TN before project scope changes significantly
TN status is tied to the specific role and employer described in your original letter. If your responsibilities expand substantially, such as absorbing a new business unit, USCIS recommends filing an amended or renewed TN rather than waiting for your current status period to expire.

Find Head Of Operations JobsHead Of Operations TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Head of Operations role qualify for TN visa sponsorship?
It can, but the classification requires careful framing. The TN visa has no dedicated Operations category, so most Head of Operations positions are filed under Management Consultant. The role must involve advising on organizational systems and processes rather than simply managing staff or executing daily operations. Your offer letter must reflect that consulting character explicitly.
How does TN visa sponsorship compare to H-1B for this role?
For Canadian citizens, TN is almost always faster and simpler than H-1B. There is no annual lottery, no cap, and Canadians can obtain TN status directly at the border with an approved offer letter. H-1B requires employer sponsorship months in advance and lottery selection. Mexican citizens face a consular appointment step, but still avoid the H-1B lottery entirely.
What should the employer include in the TN offer letter for this position?
The letter must state the job title, confirm the Management Consultant classification under USMCA, describe the specific management systems or operational challenges you'll be analyzing, your professional qualifications, the anticipated duration, and your compensation arrangement. Generic offer letters that describe routine management duties without consulting language are routinely questioned at the border.
Where can I find Head of Operations jobs that offer TN visa sponsorship?
Most general job boards don't filter by visa sponsorship type, which means you spend time pursuing roles where employers have no TN experience. Migrate Mate is built specifically for TN visa job seekers, letting you search Head of Operations and similar director-level roles by verified sponsorship status so your applications go to employers already equipped to sponsor.
Can a Mexican citizen get TN sponsorship for a Head of Operations role?
Yes. Mexican citizens qualify for TN status under USMCA and can apply for the same Management Consultant classification that covers most Head of Operations roles. Unlike Canadian citizens, who can present at the border, Mexican citizens must apply at a U.S. consulate abroad. Mexico also has an annual TN allocation, so confirming current availability with your employer before filing is advisable.
