Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship as a HR Consultant
Map your credentials to USMCA requirements
TN classification for HR Consultants falls under Management Consultant, not a standalone HR category. Your degree must be in human resources, business administration, or a closely related field. A general bachelor's in an unrelated discipline weakens your case at the port of entry.
Target employers experienced with visa sponsorship
Multinational firms and consulting companies experienced with work visa sponsorship understand the documentation requirements and won't stall your offer over unfamiliar paperwork. Look for employers with recent visa filings to identify which companies have demonstrated expertise in supporting skilled workers for HR Consultant roles.
Get your support letter right before crossing
Canadian applicants clear TN status at the border in a single appointment, so your employer's support letter is the document a CBP officer will scrutinize most. It must describe your HR Consultant duties in consulting terms, your Canadian credentials, and the temporary nature of the engagement.
Use Migrate Mate to find sponsoring employers
Searching broadly for HR roles wastes time on employers unfamiliar with visa sponsorship. Migrate Mate filters job results to companies with recent visa filings, so you're applying to employers already experienced with sponsoring international talent from Canada and Mexico.
Clarify your role scope with the hiring manager early
HR Generalist duties, benefits administration, or payroll processing don't map cleanly to Management Consultant under USMCA. Before you accept an offer, confirm the role centers on providing HR advisory or consulting services, not operational HR tasks. Misaligned job duties are a common denial trigger.
Book Mexican consular appointments well ahead of your start date
Mexican TN applicants must process at a U.S. consulate, and appointment availability varies by location. The annual allocation is limited, so filing delays can push your start date. Build at least six to eight weeks of lead time into your employer's onboarding timeline.

Find HR Consultant JobsHR Consultant TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does the HR Consultant role actually qualify for TN visa status?
Yes, but the classification depends on how the role is defined. TN visas for HR professionals are approved under the Management Consultant category, not a separate HR designation. Your job duties must focus on advising or consulting on human resources strategy, not day-to-day HR operations like payroll, benefits enrollment, or employee records management. A well-drafted support letter from your employer is what makes or breaks the classification at adjudication.
How does TN visa sponsorship for HR Consultants compare to H-1B?
TN has no annual lottery and no cap for Canadian citizens, so you can start as soon as your employer issues an offer and your application is approved. H-1B selection is randomized and limited to 85,000 slots per fiscal year, meaning qualified candidates are routinely excluded. For HR Consultants who are Canadian or Mexican citizens with a qualifying degree, TN is a faster and more predictable path than waiting for H-1B lottery results.
Where can I find HR Consultant jobs that offer TN visa sponsorship?
Most general job boards don't filter by visa sponsorship type, so you'll spend significant time applying to employers with no work visa experience. Migrate Mate is built specifically for this search, surfacing HR Consultant roles at companies with recent visa filings, so you're not starting that conversation from scratch with every recruiter.
Can I switch employers while on a TN visa as an HR Consultant?
Yes, but your TN status is tied to your current employer. If you accept a new role, your new employer must complete a fresh TN sponsorship before you begin working. Canadian citizens can handle this at a port of entry with updated documentation. Mexican citizens need to schedule a new consular appointment. There's no grace period to work for the new employer while paperwork is pending.
What documentation does my employer need to sponsor my TN visa?
Your employer must provide a support letter on company letterhead that confirms your Canadian or Mexican citizenship, your educational credentials in a relevant field, a description of your HR Consultant duties framed as consulting activity, the anticipated duration of your role, and your compensation arrangement. Canadian applicants bring this letter directly to a CBP officer at the border. Mexican applicants submit it as part of their consular package.
