Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship as an Insurance Broker
Match your credentials to Finance category requirements
The TN Finance category requires a baccalaureate or licenciatura degree. A degree in business administration, economics, or risk management typically satisfies this. If your degree is in an unrelated field, gather documentation showing how your coursework aligns with insurance brokerage practice.
Target employers experienced with visa sponsorship
Regional insurance carriers, national brokerages, and large commercial employers regularly sponsor TN professionals. Prioritize firms with dedicated HR compliance teams, as they already understand the TN sponsorship process and employer documentation requirements for work visa sponsorship generally.
Clarify your licensure status before applying
Most U.S. states require a property, casualty, or life insurance license to place policies. Canadian and Mexican brokers typically need to requalify state-by-state. Confirm whether your target employer will support the pre-employment licensing process or requires licensure before your start date.
Use Migrate Mate to find TN-ready Insurance Broker jobs
Search on Migrate Mate to filter Insurance Broker roles by employers with recent visa filings. This cuts the time spent cold-pitching companies unfamiliar with USMCA professional categories and international hiring processes.
Get your offer letter to reflect TN-specific language
Your employer's offer letter must state your professional capacity, the prearranged nature of the employment, and your intended duration. CBP officers at the Canadian border or consular officers processing Mexican TN applications scrutinize this document closely, so vague job descriptions create delays.
Understand the Mexican TN consular appointment process
Unlike Canadians who apply at a port of entry, Mexican citizens must apply at a U.S. consulate. Gather your degree credentials, the employer offer letter, and any state licensing documentation before scheduling, since consular wait times vary significantly by location and season.

Find Insurance Broker JobsInsurance Broker TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does the Insurance Broker role qualify for TN visa status?
Yes, Insurance Broker positions qualify under the TN Finance category, which covers professionals providing financial services advice, including risk assessment and insurance product placement. Your employer must confirm the role involves substantive finance-related duties tied to a qualifying degree, not purely administrative or sales tasks without professional judgment.
How does TN visa sponsorship compare to H-1B for Insurance Brokers?
TN status has no annual lottery, no cap for Canadians, and can be approved at the border the same day for Canadian citizens. H-1B requires a lottery entry in March, a multi-month wait, and an employer petition through USCIS. For Canadian and Mexican Insurance Brokers with a qualifying degree and a firm job offer, TN is a faster and more predictable path.
Does my Canadian or Mexican insurance license transfer to the U.S.?
No. Canadian and Mexican insurance licenses are not recognized in U.S. states. You must pass the relevant state licensing exam, typically covering property and casualty or life and health lines, depending on your role. Some employers will let you start in a non-licensed support capacity while you complete licensing, but confirm this arrangement before accepting an offer.
Where can I find Insurance Broker jobs that already offer TN visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate lists Insurance Broker roles at employers with recent visa filings, so you can identify companies already experienced with work visa sponsorship and USMCA professional categories. This avoids spending time with hiring managers unfamiliar with TN status, the required documentation for CBP or consular officers, or how to structure an offer letter for TN applicants.
Can my TN status be renewed if I stay with the same insurance employer?
Yes. TN status is granted in three-year increments and can be renewed without limit, provided you maintain continuous employment in the same Finance-category role. Your employer submits a new offer letter confirming the ongoing prearranged work relationship. Canadians can renew at the border; Mexican citizens renew through USCIS or at a consulate.
