Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship as a Math Teacher
Verify your degree field matches the role
TN classification for Math Teacher requires a degree in mathematics, education, or a closely related field. A degree in an unrelated discipline won't satisfy CBP's specialty occupation standard, even if you have years of classroom experience.
Request a TN support letter early
Ask your hiring school district to prepare a TN support letter before your start date. It must specify your job title, duties, degree requirement, and employment terms. Missing details are the most common reason CBP delays or denies entry.
Target districts with established foreign-hire pipelines
School districts that have hired internationally before know how to structure TN letters and HR onboarding. Search public school district job postings that explicitly invite international applicants or list visa sponsorship as an available option.
Use Migrate Mate to find TN-sponsoring schools
Filtering job postings manually for TN sponsorship is slow and unreliable. Migrate Mate surfaces Math Teacher roles at employers with active sponsorship history, so you spend time applying rather than guessing which districts will support a TN.
Clarify whether your state license transfers
Most U.S. states require math teachers to hold a valid state teaching license. Canadian and Mexican credentials aren't automatically recognized, so confirm with the hiring state's Department of Education whether your credentials qualify for licensure before accepting an offer.
Prepare for TN renewal tied to your contract term
TN status is granted in increments matching your employment contract, up to three years. When your contract renews, your TN must also be renewed. Coordinate renewal timing with your district's HR team to avoid any gap in authorized status.

Find Math Teacher JobsMath Teacher TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Math Teacher role qualify for TN visa status?
Yes. Math Teacher is a recognized TN occupation under USMCA. To qualify, you need a bachelor's degree in mathematics, education, or a related field, and a job offer from a U.S. school or educational institution. CBP reviews the degree-to-role alignment at the port of entry for Canadians or at a consulate for Mexican nationals.
How does the TN visa compare to the H-1B for math teachers?
The TN has no annual lottery and no cap for Canadian citizens, which means you can obtain status as soon as you have a qualifying job offer. The H-1B requires surviving a random lottery with roughly a one-in-four selection rate. For most math teachers, the TN is the faster and more predictable path, provided your degree and role meet USMCA requirements.
Where can I find Math Teacher jobs with TN visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate lists Math Teacher positions at employers with recent visa filings who are experienced with work visa sponsorship. Standard job postings rarely flag TN eligibility, so using a platform built around visa sponsorship saves significant time. You can filter by role and location to find districts that are set up to support Canadian and Mexican applicants through the TN process.
What documents do I need to apply for TN status as a math teacher?
You'll need your original degree transcripts or diploma, a TN support letter from your employer detailing your duties, salary, and employment period, and a valid passport. Canadian citizens present these at a U.S. land border or airport port of entry. Mexican citizens submit a DS-160 and attend a consular interview at a U.S. embassy or consulate.
Can Mexican math teachers face longer waits for TN status than Canadians?
Yes. Mexican nationals must schedule a consular appointment and attend an in-person interview at a U.S. consulate, which adds processing time that Canadian applicants don't face. Appointment availability varies by consulate and time of year. Planning your application several weeks before your intended start date reduces the risk of delays affecting your contract start.
