Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship as a Science Teacher
Align your credentials to the TN category
The TN visa Science Teacher category requires a baccalaureate or licenciatura degree in a science field. A general education degree without a science major won't satisfy the requirement, so confirm your transcript shows the right discipline before applying.
Target districts with documented sponsorship history
Public school districts with recent visa filings demonstrate experience with sponsoring foreign professionals. Filtering by location and role type helps you identify districts comfortable navigating visa sponsorship rather than those approaching it for the first time.
Request a subject-specific offer letter from your employer
Your TN support letter must specify the science discipline you'll teach, such as biology, chemistry, or physics. A generic 'science teacher' description without subject clarity can prompt officer questions at the port of entry or consulate.
Confirm employer support letter details with your sponsor
Your employer will prepare a support letter outlining your qualifications and the position details. Ask HR to confirm the job title, required qualifications, and salary offer are clearly documented in this letter, as these details will support your TN visa application at the port of entry (if you're Canadian) or U.S. consulate (if you're Mexican).
Search verified sponsoring employers through Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter Science Teacher roles where employers have active TN sponsorship. This cuts out the back-and-forth of asking districts individually whether they'll support a TN petition.
Prepare for status checks if your TN bridges school years
TN status is tied to your employer and role duration. If your contract renews annually, confirm with your employer that they'll file a timely extension or be prepared to re-enter as a Canadian at the border to reset your status period.
Science Teacher TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Science Teacher role qualify for TN visa status?
Yes. Science Teacher is an explicitly listed TN occupational category under USMCA. The position must involve teaching a recognized science subject such as biology, chemistry, physics, or earth science, and you must hold a baccalaureate or licenciatura degree in a science field. A general education degree without a science-specific major may not satisfy the requirement.
How does the TN visa compare to H-1B for Science Teacher positions?
The TN visa has no annual lottery and no cap for Canadians, which makes it far more predictable than the H-1B visa for teachers. H-1B has an 85,000-slot cap with a randomized selection process, meaning qualified candidates are frequently excluded by chance alone. TN approval for Canadians can happen at the port of entry on the same day, while H-1B processing runs months longer. Mexican nationals follow a consular process but still avoid the lottery.
Can I search for Science Teacher jobs with confirmed TN sponsorship?
Migrate Mate lets you search Science Teacher roles specifically filtered by TN visa sponsorship, so you're not spending weeks contacting districts that won't support foreign professionals. The platform surfaces employers with a documented sponsorship track record, which shortens the time between offer and petition filing significantly.
What documents does my employer need to file a TN petition for a Science Teacher?
Your employer needs to provide a support letter on company letterhead specifying your science discipline, the duration of employment, your TN occupational category, and your qualifications. You'll need your degree transcripts and passport. Canadians present this package at the port of entry; Mexican nationals submit it to a U.S. consulate. The support letter is the key document—there is no government filing or labor certification required for TN status.
Does state teaching licensure affect my TN visa eligibility as a Science Teacher?
State licensure is a separate requirement from TN eligibility and is controlled by each state's Department of Education. Not having a state license doesn't automatically disqualify you from TN status, but it may prevent you from working in public schools that require it. Some districts hire on emergency or provisional licensure while you complete the credentialing process, so confirm the district's policy before your employer files.
