Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship as a Clinical Assistant Professor
Verify your appointment letter covers TN categories
Universities issue different appointment letters for adjunct, visiting, and clinical faculty. Make sure yours explicitly states teaching or research duties at an accredited institution, because CBP officers evaluate the letter against USMCA's College/University Professor category at the port of entry.
Target institutions with active clinical faculty pipelines
Medical schools, nursing programs, and allied health departments routinely hire clinical assistant professors on TN status. Filter your search by institutions that sponsor international faculty regularly, not just those with general diversity hiring language in their postings.
Align your credentials to U.S. specialty requirements before applying
Clinical faculty roles often require licensure or board certification in addition to your degree. Canadian and Mexican applicants should confirm whether their provincial or national credentials are recognized by the relevant U.S. licensing body for the clinical field before accepting any offer.
Use Migrate Mate to find institutions sponsoring clinical faculty
Searching broadly misses the institutions already familiar with visa sponsorship processes. Migrate Mate surfaces Clinical Assistant Professor openings at employers with recent visa filings, so you spend time on roles where sponsorship experience is already established.
Negotiate a conditional start date that covers CBP processing
Canadian citizens can secure TN status same-day at a land port or airport, but processing delays do happen. Build a two-to-three week buffer into your negotiated start date so that a lengthy CBP inspection or a request for additional documentation doesn't put you in breach of your offer.
Prepare a research or teaching summary that maps to TN criteria
USCIS and CBP both look for evidence that the role is professional in nature. A one-page summary linking your clinical duties to your graduate credentials strengthens the connection between your qualifications and the USMCA professor category, especially if your title includes administrative responsibilities.

Find Clinical Assistant Professor JobsClinical Assistant Professor TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Clinical Assistant Professor role qualify for TN visa status?
Yes, provided the position is at an accredited U.S. college or university and primarily involves teaching or research. CBP evaluates the appointment letter against the USMCA's College/University Professor category. Clinical faculty roles at medical schools and health science programs qualify when the offer letter reflects educational duties rather than purely clinical service responsibilities.
How does TN compare to H-1B for a Clinical Assistant Professor position?
TN has no annual lottery, no cap for Canadians, and Canadian applicants can receive approval at the port of entry on the same day they present documentation. H-1B requires employer sponsorship through a lottery system with a months-long wait. For most Clinical Assistant Professor positions at U.S. universities, TN is faster and more predictable than the H-1B route.
What documents does a Canadian professor need at the border for TN admission?
You need a valid Canadian passport, a detailed offer letter from the U.S. institution specifying the clinical faculty title, duties, and intended duration, and evidence of your qualifying credentials such as a medical degree, doctorate, or equivalent licensure. Some CBP officers also ask for your CV. All documents should be originals or certified copies, not printouts.
Where can I find Clinical Assistant Professor jobs that offer TN visa sponsorship?
Most general job boards don't filter by sponsorship type, so results are inconsistent. Migrate Mate is built specifically for TN and other work visa job searches, letting you find Clinical Assistant Professor openings at institutions that have sponsored international faculty before, which reduces the friction of explaining TN eligibility to unfamiliar hiring teams.
Can Mexican citizens get TN status for a Clinical Assistant Professor role, and how does the process differ?
Yes, Mexican citizens qualify under the same USMCA College/University Professor category, but the process differs from Canadian citizens. Mexican applicants must apply for a TN visa stamp at a U.S. consulate in Mexico before traveling, which adds consular scheduling time to the timeline. The underlying documentation requirements, offer letter, credentials, and role alignment, remain the same.
