Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship as an Adjunct Professor
Verify your credentials match the specialty field
TN classification requires your degree to align directly with the subject you'll teach. A master's in economics teaching economics courses clears this bar. A general education degree teaching a specialized discipline often does not.
Target community colleges with recurring adjunct rosters
Community colleges and continuing education programs hire adjuncts semester by semester and are accustomed to sponsoring TN visas. Institutions with international faculty on staff are far more likely to recognize the process and move quickly.
Request a formal offer letter that names the TN category
Your offer letter must explicitly state the position is for a College or University Teacher under USMCA. A generic hiring letter without that language can delay or derail your TN application at the port of entry or consulate.
Prepare your syllabi and course descriptions in advance
CBP officers frequently ask for evidence that the courses you'll teach require specialized knowledge. Bringing signed syllabi, course catalogs, or departmental confirmation of the subject matter strengthens your TN file significantly.
Search for TN-ready adjunct roles using Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter adjunct and lecturer postings by employers with recent visa filings. This helps you identify institutions experienced with work visa sponsorship, where the hiring process is likely to be streamlined and visa-friendly.
Understand how part-time appointments affect TN status
TN status ties to a specific employer and role. Teaching at multiple institutions simultaneously requires separate TN documentation for each. USCIS treats each appointment independently, so confirm each college will support the filing and provide the required support letter for your port of entry presentation (Canadians) or consulate application (Mexicans).

Find Adjunct Professor JobsAdjunct Professor TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does an adjunct professor role qualify for TN visa sponsorship?
Yes, College or University Teacher is an explicitly listed USMCA professional category. Your role must involve teaching at an accredited institution, and your credentials must match the subject area. Adjunct, lecturer, and visiting instructor titles all qualify as long as the institution confirms the position in writing and your degree aligns with the courses you'll teach.
How does TN compare to H-1B for adjunct professor positions?
TN is almost always the faster path for Canadian and Mexican nationals. There is no lottery, no annual cap for Canadians, and Canadians can obtain TN status at a port of entry the same day with the right documents. H-1B requires employer sponsorship months in advance, a lottery selection, and USCIS processing. For adjunct roles with semester-based start dates, TN's speed is a significant practical advantage.
Can I teach at more than one college on a single TN visa?
Not on a single filing. TN status is employer-specific, so each institution you work for must independently support your TN classification. If you teach courses at two community colleges in the same semester, you need separate TN documentation from each employer. This is a common oversight that can create status complications if not handled before your first teaching day.
Where can I find adjunct professor jobs that already support TN visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for Canadian and Mexican professionals looking for TN-eligible positions. You can search adjunct and lecturer roles filtered by employers with recent visa filings, which eliminates the back-and-forth with HR departments that are unfamiliar with the visa category and reduces your time from application to offer.
What documents do I need to bring to a TN application for a teaching role?
Canadians applying at the border need a valid passport, a formal offer letter naming the USMCA College or University Teacher category, and proof of your qualifying credentials such as a master's or doctoral diploma. Mexican citizens apply at a U.S. consulate and also submit a DS-160 and pay the visa application fee. Both groups benefit from including syllabi or course descriptions to confirm the specialty field requirement.
